New Beardie Owner!!

Just got a Bearded Dragon the other day from a friend who just no longer has the time. I named him Falkor, after the dragon in Neverending Story I know he's a male, my friend guesstimates he is about 6-7 years old. He came to me on sand, but I'm going to switch him out to tiles. He seems quite happy, sleeps very well, has eaten and defecated regularly (found out he loves Basil, which is good - I have 4 Basil plants!!). He loves strawberries!! He has been eating a Spring Mix salad (greens and spinach, with some spinach taken out) and dusted crickets and mealworms (All previously fed to him... we are currently trying some different, healthier greens. I also want to switch from roaches to crickets, if he likes them). Any tips/advice/anything is appreciated, he is my first!! Thanks ya'll!

I do have other pets as well: Vinnie, a 100lb. 4 year old Black Lab, Mia, a 6 year old Bombay, and Mojo, a 6 year old Rex/Dwarf cross

And that is NOTHING compared to the animals I've had over the years!!!

Hi, welcome to the forums. Falkor is a good looking dragon. Sounds like he is going to be spoiled with you. I really like the pic of the cat and rabbit smelling each other..

Why would you switch roaches to crix? Roaches in my opinion and by nutrients charts, are way better feeder choice. Much more meat per bug. Here is a list of safe good greens to feed that I use:

Butternut Squash- Staple
Collard Greens- Staple
Acorn Squash- Staple
Cactus Pear (Prickle Pear) if you can find- Staple
Miniture "Petite" Grapes- On occasion

I encourage you to check out the chart on beautiful dragons.com also. Hope this gets you started.

OOps, I DID mean that the other way around!! He HAS BEEN eating crickets, I'd like to switch to roaches... thanks for catching that, and for the info!!

I buy Dubia Roaches for my BD. He loves them way more than crickets. I think all BD's do. I like to think of them as giant rollie pollie bugs

Where is the best/cheapest place to get Dubias? I saw them on Amazon but I want to be sure I'm getting the best deal... so far his favorite foods are strawberries and mealworms... ESPECIALLY the mealworms!!

I would feed strawberries only on occasion as well. Yes, they LOVE the worms too. Here is a good place to try Dubias.
