My wife and I just bought a 6 month old beardie for our kids. Both kids come from rough backgrounds in the foster care system. My son now age 8 has been obsessed with dragons and dinosaurs since he was a toddler, so this is the greatest thing he's ever been given. We need a chill animal that he could just hold on to and care for. So far it seems like a perfect match.

That being said I think my wife actually likes the lizard more than anyone else in the family!

We named the dragon Drogo and he seems to be doing great...except a problem with the tip of his tail. I posted a pic in the health section of the forums.

Welcome to the forum and to the world of dragons! I will check on the other post about his tail. Feel free to ask whatever and we love pictures of their set up and of course Drogo :)
If you haven't already check out the link below several of our comments as that will take you to a general care link full of helpful information.

Welcome to the forum!

I got my first beardie just ten weeks ago, but I've been sucked in pretty deep. I can see how it could happen to your wife. My 2 and 4 year old grandkids are flat out nuts about Falkor, and I'd guess your kids are as well.

Keeping dragons can be a real family bonding tool. Have fun.

PS - I'm going to Repticon in early September and I've started getting my wife used to the idea of having another lizard child in the family.

That's awesome, they make such great additons to the family. I recently got my first dragon as well and she has already stolen everyone's heart. My mother in law who is completely creeper out by anything with scales even baby talks her :)
This is such a wonderful place to receive help and advice, I post all questions and concerns here and these guys really help so much.
Congrats on the new addition to your family!

Good choice! Beardies are the BEST first reptile pet you can get. When I was a teen I started out with Anoles, then Skinks, then graduated to Iguanas, which got really big. I wish I had known about Bearded Dragons back then, I would have gotten one of those instead! Now my daughter and I enjoy spending time with Cinnamon our 4 year old beardie and making costumes for her! (see my profile pic!)
