Heyo gang. My name is Kris or mrbassybear. My wife and daughter bought a bearded dragon affectionately named 'George', off of Bugs Bunny. I think one of the Abdominable Snowman episodes. I'm going to hug him and squeeze him and name him George. Imagine saying that with Mel Blancs special voice.

I'll post a picture of this lil guy as soon as we get some.

So as most parents know, when their partner and child decide on a pet, one of us is voted as brand new caretaker, lol.

My first concern/ question is do the UV and heat lamps need to be on all the time and at night?

Thanks!

p.s. we live in southeastern ontario, Canada in an apartment building. We have a huge aquarium enclosure with two pieces of holed, not corkboard but something more dense, material. One heat lamp, one UV lamp, a ceramic log for basking, a food dish and a water dish. Also they were sold a sand substrate. The lil guy is several months old. My daughter started handling him at the pet store back in the summer and the two of them fell in love with each other. What else do I need in his home for him to hide in or relax in?

They need to know the difference between day and night so you need to turn the lights out at night. In the winter I leave a ceramic heat bulb on all night because it gets cold in his room.

No problem. Also you don't need to keep a water dish in the tank and would not recommend sand. I use ceramic tile in areas and repticarpet in others. Daily baths in warm water in the sink is also good. Mine always goes to the bathroom in the sink so his cage stays clean.

Welcome to the world of beardies!! You have gotten good advise so far. Under several of our comments you will see links we have put together information for new comers on general care.. That should give you all the basics and we can all help with the rest. Pictures of his tank, lighting and of course George are all helpful as we may see something that needs tweaking..
Happy reading and we look forward to seeing more of him
