Hey everyone I just got a baby beardie yesterday from petco and is it normal for it to not do much of anything? It won’t eat and I even found it sleeping cold in its water dish this morning. I’m trying not to stress and keep googling everything, but I just don’t know if I should be concerned and return him or this type of behavior is normal? It just sleeps and basks all day.

Please get your uvb in the tank-- it looks to be a T 8 and they are not strong enough to go thru screen or covers over those bulbs- if the brand is a zilla please change the bulb out to a reptisun T 8 bulb- it needs to be 6-8 inches directly over a piece of basking decor piece - surface basking temps should be 105-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- place the probe on the spot where he basks- not eating at all is not good - he's going thru relocation stress his eating will be off but he needs everything I posted on par so he does eat-- you can use heat resistant long cable zip ties found at home Depot to hang the uvb- you want him eating something - I would take the water dish out- please ask if you need more help

I have another UVB coming tomorrow that I can put inside. This smaller tank is temporary till I get it the 120 gallon. I have 2 night heat lamps and one daytime 100 wat. It was the only one not moving really in tank petco as well but I was drawn to it so if it doesn’t perk up soon I am going to call them. It is a t8 bulb in the strip for UVB already as well.

What do you have coming for UVB - your going to need to section the 120 gallon tank off its too big for as little as he is now- I would keep him in the smaller tank for now till hes at least 3 months old - you do not need heat in the tank at night unless its dropping below 65 ambient temps- dragons like cool and dark - please do not listen to any of those people at Petco they do not have a clue as how to take care of dragons- what is the brand of the UVB you have now? It looks like a Zilla and as I posted earlier I would change the bulb out to a better quality bulb and leave the cover off the fixture he needs full UVB rays - as for the substrate I would change that out as well - babies lick and will eat anything and if that is some sort of loose substrate it can impact him especially sand - you can use paper towels for now or get some textured NON adhesive shelf liner cut to the size of the tank found at Walmart or your local home improvement store - something w/ no grooves in it so the poop doesnt get stuck between those grooves - we need him eating something he wont last long w/ out eating - Petco will take him back and let him die so I would get his temps and lighting on par and then see how he does - this is crucial to the dragon

You can get some BSFL from www,symtombsf.com - these are a great staple for babies - I would get medium size for now do not dust them and put them on top of his salads first thing in the morning - use like 20-25 at a time and then feed your main staple feeder you are feeding- you will need a bowl similar to this to keep them in the bowl https://www.amazon.com/Reptile-Food-Bowl-Dish-Anti-Escape/dp/B07VRQ369N?tag=exoticpetnetw-20 you want the extra large bowl great for salads
