we brought our bearded dragon home Tuesday afternoon. We have only seen him eat one cricket and a few pieces of kale. We have tried hand feeding him, with little luck. He also sits up on the top part of his log for most is the day. (From what I have observed, he does not seem to move much. The tank is in my sons room but I check on him often during the day. My questions are-- is this normal for him to not eat much and stay in one place for the day ? I was told it would take a few days for him to adjust to his new surroundings. Is there also a best time of the day to feed him? What can we do to help this? We were also advised to wait on handling him.. Inout on that would be appreciated as well.

I've only had Falkor for eight days now, but I've learned a lot from the helpful folks here on the forum. Others will certainly add to what I have to say.

1. Welcome to BDF!

2. Falkor has only eaten more than one bug in a day one time in the last week. I have offered him crickets, dubia roaches, superworms and BSFL in various combinations. Others have urged me to be patient as it can take two or three weeks for him to settle in. I'm trying.

3. Make sure your temps are in the right range. You should have about 107 F at the basking area and 85 F on the cool side. You should have a T-5 or T-8 size HO fluorescent UVB bulb. Most people here use a Reptisun as do I.

4. Pick up an inexpensive scale that measures in grams and monitor the growth of your dragon.

5. Search in the forum for information on these topics and more. There's several hundred years of experience represented here.

5. Enjoy the experience.

Glad to hear that your little one is settling in, it can be frustrating for us as we are thinking am I doing this right? am I missing something?? But given time they learn that they are ok and they get used to their surroundings and their new humans.
A few of us have put together an info link that you will find below several of our comments. That link will take you right to it and most of what you may be looking for or curious about is there :)
We love pictures of course :)

Sounds like he's starting to settle in and feel a bit more comfortable to eat. Just have patience with him and he will be eating you out of house and home in no time!

I've had problems with new bubs adjusting to their environments and their way of protest is definitely not eating or wading in their bowls. I would make sure your beardie has a good safe hiding spot and lots of patience! He will come around, don't give up!
