I got Rex from a previous owner who no longer had time for him, Rex is 6, awesome lil guy. I have a feeling this guy didn't take care of him well. His skin was very dry and he is missing a nail on each leg, his remaining nails on each leg are extremely long and beginning to curl under, hindering his ability to climb almost. I have had him nearly two months, his skin has cleared up much better, I got him on a better diet, new cage, I can tell hes much happier in his new environment. I got a slate in his cage but I think they need to be clipped, but I don't want to hurt him. Advice please? Look how happy he is

If you do clip just clip the tip where it starts to curl and let him wear the rest off on the rocks or file them if he will let you

My Dexters nails started to curl when we had her on a repti vine. We took the vine away from her and it took a few months but they went back to normal. Rex's are a bit more curled than hers were though but they still might straighten out. If you do cut them, like timbalan said, just cut the tip.

Id advise a small nail file myself. Then u can controll how much comes off. It may b a bit difficult if he not willing but if u keep at it u will get it done even if u can only do a nail each time he gets out after 1 foot feels comfy he will repise wot ur doin. They r very smart u know :)

I don't know if you are still looking but here is a good video on clipping their nails. The clarity of the nail in the video is very crisp so it's easy to see just how much to take off.

Be cautious when clipping the nails. You can try this bearded dragon nail trim method
This person uses a rough sand paper type of material. But once the filing starts, remove it so they don't file down too much. I think cutting a bearded dragons nails is way too risky.

I wonder if this really works. My Luci is always climbing the walls of her tank, maybe I should put a piece of sandpaper up for him!
