Hi everyone!

I'm apoptosis, a biology major from Virginia. I have (well technically my girlfriend has) one bearded dragon named Rex. To be honest, there are a lot of improvements I can make for our girl, which is why I've joined this site! I am earnestly working toward the best possible future for our dragon, and will probably be generating all sorts of questions. (starting, in fact, with the one I posted in the health forum!)

I'm looking forward to learning and talking with all of you!

Welcome to the forum! What do you want to do with your biology major?

I would love to continue on the path of research (so far I've researched antioxidants in plants and cellular biology in plankton) or study animals in a way that helps them instead of hurt them. Really, any research would be lovely (and better than the job in retail I currently have while I volunteer in my plankton lab!)

My niece just graduated with a major in biology with a general emphasis. I think she wants to work in a lab and research human disease and stuff like that. I kept telling her she should become a vet, when my cat got sick I read the lab results to her and asked her to tell me in layman terms what they meant and she was able to. Other than cats, she's not really as into animals as I am. Most of my family is afraid of the bearded dragons.

that would be an awesome job! epidemiology, virology, immunology etc. are all very interesting to me.

i always thought i wanted to be a vet until i realized i don't handle gore and death very well, particularly when it involves animals.

cats are lovely. we have a rescue cat who has one half-shut eye and only four teeth. he already knew how to play fetch when we adopted him!

At first she told us she wanted to be a dentist because she wanted to help people that couldn't afford to go to the dentist. After spending a day at work with me shadowing my boss, I think she changed her mind!

Back in the day when I was thinking about going to college, I thought about becoming a vet. I think for the same reason you stated, I decided I couldn't do it. There is a vet by my house that is hiring a receptionist and I don't even think I could do that. I can't handle when people cry in front of me.

Although, with all my critters, sometimes I feel like one. The other night I got frustrated with my cat because she was sneezing all over me and I was tired and had to clean her nose. I told her "even though I ACT like I'm a vet, doesn't mean I am one!"
