Should my 8 month old boy feel cold when I pick him up? His basking spot is 107 the hot side floor is 89 middle of the tank is 84 and the cool side is 79. He eats fine is perfect in every other way. He is in a a 48” x 24” x 18” tank

How are you getting that temp? He should not feel cold ----NO stick ons they are inaccurate --- digital probe thermometer please --- middle of the tank should be in the 90's -- you can get a dome and use a regular house hold bulb old style NO LEDS --- they dont heat - use a 40-60 watt bulb and watch your temps --- the cool side of the tank should be 80's during the day ---

Maybe I should have been more clear the tank is very warm but when I pick him up his belly just feels cold for the high temps I read in the tank with an IR Gun. He don’t bask much spends a lot of time on the floor but is active

Then he is fine-- they heat from their backs- is he pooping good? Eating? Does he lay on the tile alot? Mine do - I would get his basking temp down to 95-100 -- as they get older they don't like really hot temps- it's good to offer a piece of decor that gives gradient heat temps-

My guy still doesn’t like to be handled much but his temps are good in the tank and when I take him out he doesn’t feel hot. I’ll try to scoop him out right after basking tomorrow to see if I can feel the heat from him. But he has never seemed hot or cold when I have held him.

He used to poop every day now like every other but they are big and look ok. Is there a way to raise the lower floor temp without heat mats? Would a ceramic heat lamp help?

You don't need too- they heat from their backs not stomachs- if he's laying on the floor he likes the temp there-- pooping every other day is good-- the che should be used only when temps get below 65 at nite and then you want it placed in the center of the tank -- your dragon is fine

Its okay if they’re cold in the morning or evening, temps below 55 for more than 3 days will cause problems, my girl is always a little chilly in the morning but she warms up fine and goes about her day, make it as easy as possible for them to get to their basking spot :)
