I know he's not a dragon but you guys may have info to help. He got stuck in a log decoration I had to cut it with bolt cutters to get him out. His scales on one side are scraped all the way to the meat. His top fin has a small rip in the front. I've got a tank ready to move him into but I'm worried that may be too stressful for him . He's moving around and eating I put the aloe vera stuff in big tank so I'm thinking I'll leave him and watch closely unless someone has reason that's bad. Keep in mind I'm a wreck and crying and I never think clear in these situations. The only med I have is for ich but I don't know if that's appropriate for traumatic injury. Idk this sucks

I'm no expert with Goldfish! As far as i know they are the hardiest fish you can get. You can probably get some wound healer on Amazon, we used that for our Koi Carp when they got a cut.

I hope its not too bad and it gets better!

Do you use aquarium salt? I used to with past fish but with my current comet goldfish I have several live plants that thrive and procreate and was scared the salt would hurt the plants.
About a year or so ago, our older fish started acting weird and we found a sore on her. I went to a fish store for advice and after showing pics of it and testing her water quality, I was shocked that they just suggested a partial water change and putting aquarium salt in! I was expecting to spend a fortune on meds there.
By the next morning she was already acting better, I couldn't believe something so simple and cheap could be such a life saver...we really thought we were going to lose her.
Good luck with yours, keep us posted!

Salt is good. Just keep an eye on the wound. It should clear up easily if your baby is otherwise healthy and the water quality is good. I've caught very healthy fish in the wild that have horrendous scars from gator bites.

Dont overuse the salt, be careful with it. Clean water and Melafix will go a long way for these types of injuries. Keep some Maracyn 2 handy if the need arises to treat for a bacterial infection.

He's doing great. That first day he didn't feel good at all. Fish definitely feel more than just stress. I got him some blood worms and I've been giving him some peas and his regular food. Just trying to spoil him while he recovers. So relieved. Never thought I'd be using bolt cutters to break out my fish. Thx for everybodies support.

Glad he's coming around, goldfish and catfish are without a doubt one of the hardiest fish out there except some fish that can breathe air. They can overcome wounds much worse than his. I caught a big fantail goldfish on a jig while crappie fishing at night and wanted to show a picture of it but it was in 2010 and computer pics only go back to 2012 for some reason. Yours looks like a pretty big one too.

Ya he is big . His tail is so beautiful. It was a fluke that I went straight to the bolt cutters in the garage. I'm a panickey person in these situations if you would have asked me where they were on a good day I wouldn't have known so going straight to them was a gift from above. I was.prepared to hurl everything out of my garage .

I'm pretty sure he's blind now. He only had 1 good eye before this and his good eye got damaged while he was stuck and thrashing around. It doesn't look like he sees food. I'm gonna get the crisps because they sink. He was trying to eat off the bottom but not anything from the top or floating . I'm sad for him and I want to run over that log in my car. Another hard lesson for me. Ughhhhh . My kids think I'm crazy already because I try to see what could happen before and make adjustments to prevent it. This one got by me.

I had a blind cichlid "Ray" lost his eyes to the fish disease pop eye.. I trained him to get his sinking food pellets from a bowl I put on the bottom of the tank and gently kept guiding him to the bowl and after some time he learned when he felt the lid open he would go to the bowl...
Goldfish usually eat from the top cichlids are the opposite.. But I bet you can train him..

That's a good idea . I'm gonna do that. I think he had pop eye a long time ago we werent sure because we caught the cat on top with wet paws. I put empty soda cans on top as an alarm after that. I hope my fish learns fast I have to put on a tank top to reach the bottom of the tank and stand on a chair.

It took a bit for Ray to learn to surf the gravel to find the bowl so as he was learning I did some flake then some slow sinking just above and around the bowl then slowly they learn that they need to find the bowl... I always kept the bowl in the same spot...he lived for 5 years!! He knew when he felt the lid open he would find his bowl and wait for the food to fall...
