Hello everyone! Tiki is my (almost) 5 month old beardie and I've had him since he was a hatchling. He's very sweet and doesn't mind being picked up or pet, but he seems to rather just stay in his cage. He'll be running around like crazy so I'll go to take him out and he'll just jump off and try to go back in his cage. I do handle him every day, sometimes multiple times, so he is handled often. Whenever I take him out though, if I'm by his cage he just tries to go back to it. I read that beardies usually are good about just hanging out on your shoulder or even your lap while you watch tv, but he is always wanting to move lol. He'll be good for a couple of minutes and that's it. Is it just because he's still young? I just wish he would like coming out for play time lol.

Here is a pic of my handsome boy :)

Welcome to The Bearded Dragon Forum!
His cage is home, and if he's anything like me, he loves being home more than anywhere else :)

What a gorgeous boy!

We have our first beardie about the same age, and it likes to be in its tank also. We started making sure we took it where it couldn't see its tank when we had it out and that has helped. But yes, it will be chill for a bit and then go all crazy squirmy, so I wonder if it is the age.

Young beardies always seem to have some more energy, my beardie went through this phase but now she enjoys coming out of her cage to sit around or go on walks. At your beardies age he thinks he can jump and land perfectly, I've been lucky with this and my beardie suffered no injuries. Make sure he's low to the ground when you have him out, or even purchase a leash, I have one from amazon with adjustable sizes that she can have for her whole life.

He's so pretty! He's just young. They get older and get lazy and chill. I take mine out every day and they each have time to hang out on me. They are all different my girl would lay on my chest all day long if I let her but my boy he would rather be out for a short bit and back to his tank with all his fun stuff.
