My three month BD tries to eat stones in the garden. The largest he has tried was about 1cm long and wide. I have to move them out the way but he managed to get some. Then he looks at the ones trapped in the concrete and tries to dig them out and eat them. He is just under 30cm long (snout to tip of tail) and the vet agrees that it looks male. He has sprinkled on his veg ARKVITS three times a week and Calci-Dust four times a week. I know some animals that can’t chew plant material well like ostriches, other birds and some dinosaurs swallow stones to help grind up rough vegetation. Could this be it? The veg he gets is curly kale, pepper, dandelion leaves and sometimes grass. And the bugs are hoppers, crickets, meal worms, the beetle, sometimes small edible snails and earth worms and as a treat wax worms

Your BD is trying to eat small stones because BDs lick everything and think that everything small enough to fit in their mouth is food, not for any kind of nutritional reasons. Please keep it away from these materials as it can cause blockages in their digestive system and can kill them.

What happened about 3 years ago we had a big bag of small stones. These where to cover a section of the garden that had this black stuff on it to stop weeds growing. The bag was kept on the pavement until we used the stones up. Some stones would fall out when they would be put in the wheal barrow to be tipped where we wanted it. When most of the stones where out of the bag and the bag was light enough to pick up to carry the rest of the stones we did not notice the hole on the bottom and the stones went everywhere. We cleaned most of it up but there are still stones on the pavement. When in the garden he is allowed on the table, grass, up the small tree that’s about 1.5m high and the pavement. It’s when on the pavement he finds the stones. Now he won’t go on the pavement.

Aw, sad for him. I'm sure he liked to bask on the pavement. But definitely can't have him around little things he could eat and hurt himself with.

Luckily for him the table is high (just over 1m) and is made of pieces of dark wood so it gets really hot and is in full sun light about 11am to about 6pm so it gets nice and hot to bask on :D

For a little while. Most of the time it’s about half an hour but sometimes on really hot days then no longer then and hour. But there is no set time but I am for about 1pm or 2pm. The earliest he goes out is May and the latest is the end of September but only when its warm and sunny

My beardie has never been outside. I don't like the horrible humid SC summers....so poor little Spike is out of luck!! :D
