Has anyone dealt with a young beardy who is skittish and afraid? This ia my first time owning a reptile.
When i first got the baby she acted normal, but now she acts as if im a threat. Im just wondering if this is just a phase that shes going through or if something is going wrong that is causing her to hiss when trying to pick her up. She has proper uvb, basking light, she sleeps great every night with only a ceramic heater and no light, she eats like crazy. Im at a loss.

How long have you had her? And how long did you wait until you held her?

Hiya,
I have a one year old beardie who acted similar when I first got him. This is not uncommon for beardies to act like this to new owners. Some ways to get your beardie to trust you are handling for about 15 mins a day, just holding your hand near her for a while so she knows you are not a threat and hand feeding. Hand feeding is great for her to trust you but try not to do it all the time as she may not take food for herself. I have had my beardie for about 5 months and after a month or two of handling he is completely used to me. If your beardie is shedding/about to shed, this is another reason they may be acting like this as bearded dragons often act skittish and irritated when shedding. Just keep trying and you can form an amazing bond with her.
