Hello Everyone I'm driving from California to Louisiana I have 2 bearded Dragons.. Wondering if anyone had ideas on traveling with with them. Saw on YouTube you can place them in a clean shoe box with holes in it.. pack some veggies and some feeders and go from there.. I'm concerned about their lighting. Advice needed and welcomed.

hi there. how old are they? how long do you anticipate the trip to take? they really need the heat source to help them digest their food. If your trip is only going to take a couple of days, I would probably "feed them up" a few days before you leave, then not feed them while you are traveling. They wont be happy but they'll be ok. a shoe box is ok. make it 2 - one for each of them. and - put a towel or "blankie" in there. probably want to provide them with water during the trip. will you be staying in a hotel at all?

Thanks for the reply.. I won't be staying in a hotel and they're about 5 months. It's a little over 25 hours of driving.

Feeding them without having a basking light overhead to digest for at least 2 hours is a bad idea, it's just going to make them sick. You can transport them in a shoe box but I would consider getting a little small pet carrier that would be a little more comfy for them.

What I would do is get them each a decent sized container, make some holes, and get some of the hand warmer packets cover them in the blankets so they can't get right on them and burn themselves. So make the container size big enough to get off the heat pad, you may even be able to just stick them on the side of the container and it should give off enough ambient heat..You may or may not need them so keep that in mind and watch what how they are acting and looking like.. Be careful if the sun is shinning on them they can get too hot in the containers..

They make toe warmers, which are identical to the normal hand warmers, but they're obviously for your feet, so they have a sticky side that sticks to the bottom of the shoe. If you're looking for something that'll stay in place well, those might be a good option. I use them when taking my girl to the vet.

Oh, and, welcome to the south.
