Mouth Open & How to Exercise

My beardie is very docile, likes me to hold him and enjoys his baths. He often opens his mouth, even when not basking under his heat lamp. It seems to me that he's content, he doesn't get mad at anything. It looks like he's laughing, so I can't help but take pics of him with his mouth open.

How can I exercise my beardie, as in taking for "walks" outside in the yard? I have dogs that may assume he's a toy if he's running around in the house, so I can't just let him loose inside the house, but have seen leashes that may provide safety if taking outside in our yard. I don't want him to get away, of course. Any suggestions?

I appreciate any feedback!

Can you put him in a room and close the door to keep the dogs out for a bit so that he can run around by himself? Some people use a baby playpen with a cover over it. Leashes are good too, just make sure they are securely on so that your little one doesn't wiggle out of it.

Yes, I closed all doors and did that in the hallway, but he seemed to just go and hide rather than run around. I also do have another safe room where he can't get in trouble, so I'll try that. I'm interested in taking him outside during the times when it's nice and warm, because he does enjoy sitting in the sun when I take him outside on my shoulder. Thanks @PatsyB!

I got one for my girls and they don't seem to like it much, as in, when I tried to put it on they completely freaked out, lol. I was successful in getting it on Khaleesi properly, but the second it was on, she took off. I'm going to try to get them used to it little by little, but I don't want to stress them out. I'm sure some dragons don't mind it, but mine hate it! LOL
