Hey guys,
My name is Bryan and im new to your great forum! I am planning on getting my first dragon next week sometime. I have done alot of research about these dragons and have a good grasp on what is best for them to thrive and be happy. I went to the local reptile shop yesterday and talked to the owner about a bunch of stuff. I told him that I have heard very good things about the reptisun 10.0 uvb bulb. He said that he would recomend this bulb called Mega Ray UVB. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank and he said to get the 160 watt. He said this buld takes care of UVB and heat and would be the only bulb I would need for my dragon. What do you guys think about this bulb? Would it be better to get a normal bulb for heat and basking spot and the reptisun 10.0 for the UVB? Thanks alot!

Mega Ray is the primo of MVB. you won't find better output typically.
However, they are expensive, and won't take alot of abuse or movement. While you're getting set up you might consider the repti sun 10...it's a very good bulb, with good bang for the buck. It's not as easy to blow, while you're moving around trying to get things just right.

Okay thanks! Does the mega ray provide ALL types of light and heat necessary for my dragon? also, does it proved uvb and other healthy lights only in one area or will it cover basically the entire vivarium?

alot will depend on the size of the viv, the ambient temp in your home and your desired temp at basking. But if set up correctly with a standard set up, the Mega Ray should hold high enough temps and provide enough light. It has a rounded surface to disperse light in ray that's somewhat "V" shaped.
I'm awful at explaining this.
You will need an alternate light for heat with the repti sun, but that can be just a regular house bulb.

Yes, the megaray will basically take care of your heat and UV output. I had it in the past and my temps were too hot for my beardie. I had a 75 gallon viv.

I like the ReptiSun 10.0 because it projects UV rays the furthest in the viv and runs the entire length of the viv.
