Hi there, I need some advice. I am waiting to see my vet as he prescribed medication by oral syringe and on his (my lizards) second last day of taking the medication (9/10) my dragon was very feisty and refused to down it so once it was in his mouth he proceeded to throw up the medication and it sounds like he inhaled some of the medication as he is either dry heaving or gagging every now and then since last night (which is when this happened). I feel awful as I can’t find out what to do and seem to be unable to help.

This morning I’ve only heard him do it once more and he is walking around as normal, my vet is closed at the moment and I can’t get a hold of anyone so if there is anything that I can do or try for now please let me know!!

Thank you!
This is what I was told for you
Aw that's unfortunate. Well at least the coughing seems to have slowed from their description. Not much they can do except keep the dragon a little warmer at night [ like 78 F ] but no other temp. change. Hopefully it will clear up on it's own.

Thank you so much for your help! I’ll adjust the temp tonight and I’ll post an update soon!

Please be real cautious now w/ giving meds again like that you dont want him to do it again -- rule of thumb administer VERY SLOW - let him swallow first what you put in before adding more -- it can be a pain in the butt but better to be safe--- what was the med and what was it for?

It was Enrofloxacin it was for one of his femoral pores that had an infection, it is either an antibiotic or anti inflammatory as there was two originally prescribed and we finished one already. I will definitely be even more cautious from now on and go much slower

Did the vet advise on how to get those pores open? You can soak him in a betadine solution make it look like a weak tea soak for about 10-15 minutes a few times a week to get them softened up -- then if you gently squeeze them the stuff should come out - Hiccups looked like candle sticks and I soaked him a few times per week getting them softened up and they just popped when I gently squezzed them - its good if hes got stuff in the tank that kinda rough that they can rub against to keep them open -- the betadine is a antiseptic --

Oh that’s actually really smart! The vet didn’t tell me to do anything and actually advised I don’t try to get them out as some dragons live with it their whole lives as they are definitely like a bit clogged but is was just the infection he was worried about. He has many rough surfaces but I might try the baths as that sounds like it might work well

Update

Tesla is doing much better, talked to the vet who said to monitor him for now as he’s stopped gagging and being very active and eating/drinking really well! He’ll be getting a bath tonight and lots of love
