maybe a silly question

I've had my General for about 3 years. I'm not sure how old she is because she was a rescue and came with a bottle of dried crickets and two bowls. She had never had greens until my daughter discovered her and picked dandelion for her....OK 'nuff said.

I have babied her and worried about her and she has been doing well. She likes her worms and eats her greens, although she prefers things that crawl or jump. ;)

But I have a question. I also have a Mississippi map turtle. Recently I bought some earthworms since she has decided that after 15 years she doesn't like her Reptimin any more. I have been sharing the Generals' superworms with her and she loves them. My son suggested that maybe she would like the earth worms. So I got her some.
Oh no, no, no! She won't touch those earth worms. Now my question: Could I offer them to my bearded dragon? I've never seen anything about giving our dragons earth worms and I'm afraid to even offer them until I discover if they would be good for her, harmful or what?

Anybody know?

It's risky as earthworms are known to be loaded with parasites/pesticides, and they're full of water so if you fed them they'd probably cause diarrhea too.

According to my vet, you can give them an earthworm here and there (he said one or two a month), but it's best to get them from insect suppliers and not bait shops. With that being said, I haven't given my beardies earthworms, something about it just sits funny with me.

You could always go fishing :) Or place them in a garden. They are great for the soil.

Yep you can give them here and there but yes you need to be sure they are not raised for bait shop as you have zero idea of what's in them.. I have given my female a couple here and there and she loved them, however I stick to her other feeders.

Thanks, everyone! I just didn't feel comfortable about giving her earthworms. And you have confirmed my reservations.

NOW I have to figure out what to do with a whole cup of earthworms... LOL Maybe my daughter's compost heap. :)

Yes earthworms are okay to feed them as long as they come from a feeder supplier. Make sure you dry the earthworm off before you give it to him, they are quite slimy and bearded dragons sometimes have a hard time picking them up.
