I just made my bearded dragons cage. I have eco earth as the bottom and walnut shell substrate for the top. Do I need to make any changes?

The eco earth is still really damp so I am waiting for it to dry out before I put my beardie in it. Thanks in advance!

U need to have the lights a bit higher and use the Reptisun 10.0 T5 for uvb it’s a long tube and zoomed clear bulb for heat. Never use coiled or colored bulbs and sand they ingest it’s best to die paper towels or white terry clothes towels.

Should I bandage my beardie before putting her it it??

Actually don’t bandage it u will cause the skin to stick to the bandage just place the medication and leave it and let it heal. Ask long as u have no sand in the tank to get into the would then u should be fine. Silver sulfadiazine cream ups 1perecnt is what u should get from the vet but try the vetrycin if u can’t make it to the vet.

I like it,,,,,but there needs to be a couple tweaks, now this one is in my opinion (mix ur substrates together, add some sand, spagnum moss, dead leaf litter and some rocks he cant swallow) for one you kinda went over board with the substrate, but thats okay! Id recommend buy a large piece of slate and put that on the left side of the enclosure (you want his food dish away from the substrate, and slate holds heat nicely), once more where ever he sleeps there shouldn’t be any substrate there for him to breath in at night, get a hanky and put it wherever he sleeps, otherwise i think it looks good.

Thanks!! I’ll do that! Do you think the eco earth will dry out? It is really clumpy and damp.

I don’t think it will by the time you want him in there, it holds moisture pretty good, if you get a handful and squeeze it and water comes out thats WAY too wet, when doing my beardies substrate I didn’t add any water, i only add moisture maybe once a month , and thats only to keep my cleaner crew alive, do you have rolly pollys where you live? Aka pill bugs? If you can go find some of those to throw in your enclosure they help move dirt and eat “rot” and ur dragons poo.

I have pill bugs… will it be okay If she ate any of them?
If they’re coming from outside id recommend you bury them so she doesn’t eat them (they may have parasites , unlikely as pill bugs are very sensitive) but just to be safe, she can eat then normally though.

For them to live n thrive you need dried leaves and “matter” /bark for them to eat.
