Well sadly it's thanksgiving here in Canada and 2-hours ago we said goodbye to our Beardie we dearly loved and now we dearly miss her!
We were able to hold her while she took her last breath and made sure that she knew we were there for her!
This is our 2nd dragon that we have purchased from previous owners and the 2nd one to die from MBD! I had thought we had learned what to look for and we had her poop tested regularly, took her outside when it was nice, heck we even had to hand feed her (well my wife like it and bonded with Cleo), gave her cactus, kale, silk worms, etc. Dusted everything with calcium and vitamins but it wasn't enough to save her!
It's really strange how a reptile can get ahold of you and really become a member of the family and when something goes wrong, you try to do everything you can and it simply didn't work!
So... IF we decide to become beardie parents again, well, the vet we went to (Dewinton Animal Hospital - have to give them a plug), is highly recommended but aside from that, she offers 1-2 hour free consult with anyone who is thinking about reptiles and while we read up, tried that, studied diets, sunshine, proper lighting, etc. She is going to further our education BEFORE we make a decision.
To all the beardies who have passed on, may you always have the sun you love on your back at all times! Amen
