we just got spike a few days ago and want to make sure we are doing right by him! there isn’t a bulb in the second spot on the dome. just the basking light. the uvb is the reptisun 10.0 18inch. tank is 40 gallon. we got him from the pet store and they estimated 6 months old. i’ve attached pictures of our setup. is there anything that needs done differently besides a different thermometer? we are getting a different one soon. so far spike is doing good but we want to make sure it stays that way.

The 18 inch UVB I am thinking its the T8 --- you want a 24" fixture w/a T5 bulb - T8's need to be replaced every 6 months and it needs to be unobstructed they are not strong enough to go thru screens- I would look at upgrading the tank to a 120 gallon here real soon and the UVB should be done first - the 24" will go right into the 120 gallon - I can post links for UVB's and tanks if you like-- and the digital probe thermometer I would get right away as well 2 of them - you want surface basking temps of 95-100 for him and ambient temps of around 100-- cool side of the tank around 80ish during the day -- I would watch the grass hammock they have been known to cause injuries to feet like sprains and ripping nails off if caught - you can look on Etsy search bearded dragons and find either a cloth or fleece hammock they are safer on the legs etc--
