What is Brumation?
Short and simple, Brumation is the reptilian form of Hibernation.

How long does it last?
It can last a couple of weeks to a couple of months depending on the dragon.

Do all dragons brumate?

No. Not all dragons will brumate and sometimes those that didn't one year, may brumate the next and vice versa.

At what age do they begin to brumate at?
Dragons usually don't begin to brumate until they are roughly a year to 18 months old. Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and sometimes they brumate at a younger age but it's just not common.

What do I do if they brumate?

First and foremost, GET A FECAL DONE! You do not want your dragon to go into brumation with parasites or any other nasties because they can either wake up worse or not wake up at all. Also since the symptoms of brumation are similar to parasites it's always a good idea to make sure it isn't parasites before you let your dragon brumate. If your dragon goes into a deep sleep, let them sleep but wake them up once a week for a soak and food. You want to lay off the protein a little while they brumate. If they are just the lazy/lethargic type, feed them with a little less protein and continue the soakings as you would if they were wide awake. Do not mess with their lighting schedule.

What are the signs/symptoms?
Symptoms are very similar to having parasites which include but not limited to lack of appetite, lethargy, frequent hiding or sleeping, avoiding the basking spot. Weight loss is NOT a sign of brumation! A dragon should only lose a couple grams if that while brumating. If your dragon loses more than a couple grams, it is likely a parasite issue that must be taken care of right away!

When does Brumation start?
Usually it will start as early as late August and last through out April in some cases. But like I mentioned before, not all dragons are the same. Brumation can take place at any time between those months.

What do I do when my dragon wakes up?
Assuming it's his final day of brumation, give him a long soak and a large meal.
