We returned from the New England Reptile Expo in Manchester, New Hampshire. After getting him home we gave him a quick soak in the tub, before introducing him to his new home. He was resting on one of lower branches and leapt down to gobble up his Dubia's that I had offered him.

I noticed after we got home he has something weird going on in the corner of his mouth. At first I thought it was dried on food not so sure now.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to your little one! He's a cutie, keep an eye on that mouth area and when you go to the vet to get him checked have him/her take a look.. If it gets worse don't wait to get him checked. When your able to sneak a peak inside his mouth when he's basking and gapping you may get a better look at what's going on and to what extent. Mouth rot is serious.

Thank you! I was going to call a vet on Monday and see if I could make an apt. While at the expo I bought 200 small Dubias only because it was a 20.00 dollar minimum purchase. He seems to have a little appiatite he ate some of his apple and banana. For tonight I have my wife's heating pad underneath the 10gal acuarium. I wanted to get a lamp instead. Would the red heat lamp be sufficient?

Congrats on the addition! I agree keep an eye on the mouth. Looks like it is food, you could gently brush with a toothbrush or wipe with a washcloth. I agree with Hdrydr31, if it isn't food and it looks like it's getting worse, have it looked at. I have a dragon with an infection in her mouth and it's a very slow healing process.

Heating pads are BAD. They can't feel heat on their belly so they tend to sit on hot things too long and not realize they are burning themselves. Also, the red light is bad too. They can see the light even with their eyes closed because they have a sort of third eye on top of their head. You only need heat at night if your tank temperature drops below 65 degrees. They need a natural drop in temp at night to help regulate their body.

Here's a link to some general information that we put together... http://www.beardeddragonforum.com/threads/general-info-set-up-1st-timers.13863/

Sorry for the confusion the heating pad is for the Dubia's only. We have a 150 W basking light and a 22" Reptisun T5 10.0 UVB bulb I had wanted the red bulb for the Dubia's as a heat source

Good I would have him/her checked.. Dubia are great feeders!!! they will eat you out of house and home if you keep buying them so consider starting your colony... If you have questions take a look at that link below our comments as I've written up info on how to care and breed them.. In that link you'll also find links for good foods you want to limit the sugars they take in. Nice leafy greens like collards, mustard, turnip, dandelion greens are great staples just know that babies will typically eat more protein than their greens but keep offering salads everyday. They are growing machines! good way to gut load the dubia's is feed them the same greens that you feed your dragon as their GI tract is really long so he/she will get those nutrients that way too.
If you have to put a heating pad don't put it below as beardies can't sense heat from below and can burn themselves. In a pinch and last resort the red lamp (FOR A short time) the light keeps them from really sleeping as they have a 3rd eye ontop of their head that senses shadows from above, and also keeps their pupils from constricting/dilation and can cause damage... If you need to get the temp above 65F get a CHE ceramic heating element and fixture that will support it..
The 10gal will not allow for proper temp gradients that they need.. 40g breeder is min..

Babies need much higher temps than the mid 80's daytime they should be up to the 107F maybe he's not comfortable getting up on the branches maybe look into a rock formation or a series of hammocks to get him 6" below the basking area..

I have brought the heating lamp down lower to the perch where he likes to be and the temp is 105. The vet wants me to keep an eye on the sore . It has started to scab over. They think it could have been an injury from being in with other baby dragons. He has an apatite for the Dubias that he gets about 3 hrs prior to lights out. He hadn't eaten much of the salad as of yesterday. He does like the alfalfa sprouts only if I wiggle them in his dish. Maybe he thinks they are small worms.

Glad to hear this.. don't be too worried that he's not eating much greens yet as babies they need more protein during all their growth, just make sure you continue to offer him a good variety of greens and feed the same to your dubia as he will get the green nutrients thru them as their gi tract is very long so the goods stay in them longer. not sure if you've checked out the link below several of our comments we've put together tons of info for new comers and in there we've put several food item list links for ideas. (you won't see the links in taptalk so let me know if you want the link)

Wish there was a good answer to that one as every dragon is different.. You should feed them as much as they want in a 15 min span they will walk away when full..for babies feed 3 times a day

I have a 10 gallon aquarium that I am not using currently. How many Dubias should I house, I have been thinking about starting a colony but still have fears about them getting out and creating problems.

Don't worry about them causing issues outside their heated environment.. They really are a tropical bug. they won't live long enough to do anything but go feet up.
My Izzy when she was that size likely ate anywhere from 20-40 a day ish, my male was a pig at that size likely ate 30-60 a day..

We have had our beardie a little over a week now and my son decided to name him Godzilla. I can tell that he has put on some weight just by looking at him. I am wondering if maybe he is more piggy than lizard.

Looking good! as long as your feeding a good balanced diet all will be good and boys typically eat more and weigh more.

I offer him collard greens, alfalfa sprouts, summer squash today. I added a few pieces of carrot as well and he purposely picked them out of his salad.
