Hello. About a week ago i rescued a 2 year old beardie called Arthur. Hes amazing and is really active but he doesnt drink much. Hes a leatherback beardie so im pretty sure there supposed to have wrinkly skin anyway but i just want to make sure hes not dehydrated. The last time he drank was 4 days ago. I always leave a water bowl in his viv but he never drinks it and when i put him in the bath he drinks. When i gave him a bath yesterday though he didnt meaning hes not had a drink for 4 days. Am i just panicking or is there a reason for this?

Dragons are a desert animal and do not drink much --- please feed him his greens / salads and rinse the greens before serving -- most dragons get their hydration from the salads - make sure your gut loading the insects before feeding like feed them at night stuff like carrots / squash etc some thing w/ good water content and something you want your dragon eating -- if hes not drinking from the bowl I would take it out -- and hes drinking from the bath then I would bath him like every 10 days or so ---- his poop will tell you if hes dehydrated -- you want the poop to look moist formed and dark the urate white formed and moist - any dried looking urate hes dehydrated or no urate is not good -- any excess water is good

Hi some Beardies don’t drink water; Nothing to be alarmed or worry about; basically they can’t see still water. U can dab some on his nose/mouth or take him to the water bowl and flicker it with your fingers. However they obtain hydration mainly from their baths. Typical rule of thumb is baths twice per week and more when shedding & let them bathe for 15min minimum in lukewarm water dechlorinated water. Use Reptisafe drops in the water to remove the chlorine if u don’t have a filter system because chlorine dries out their skin. Also u can mist him a few times a day with dechlorinated water. Most important thing is to keep the UVB and heat on for 12-14 hours, 14 in the summer and 12 in the winter and replace the UVB every 6 months religiously. The best UVB is the Reptisun 10.0 T5 and it’s a long tubular bulb ordered on Amazon or a specialty reptile store, the length u order should cover 70 percent of the tank and be placed starting at the hot side. And for heat the zoomed basking CLEAR bulb; never ever use colored or coiled bulbs. Proteins once per week since he’s over 2 years old the best are crickets, Dubias and u can do super worms once ina while and a large hornworm as a treat. Also, a veggie plate every day switched out when it gets soft and wilted the best is mustard greens, yellow squash, butternut squash, collard greens, and endives. Do fruits as a treat once per week; blueberries and mangoes are best. He’s a doll good luck, he looks great. Also he’s an adult so do the calcium powder sprinkled once or twice per week but only once per day on the veggies or proteins and on a noncalcium day sprinkle herptivite once per week/once per day it’s a vitamin & make sure they eat watever u sprinkle the herptivite on rite away so maybe best to sprinkle on the proteins because u shouldn’t leave the herptivite more than 5 minutes or so on the food it needs to be consumed rite away. Here are photos of the light and powders.
