My daughter received a fish tank for her birthday so my son asked for a lizard for Christmas. My husband surprised me by saying OK. So the day after Christmas we bought our beardie. I wouldn't even touch him for the first 3 days and now I carry him around and talk to him like a baby. In less than 2 months I've noticed emotional benefits for my 3 kids, especially he younger 2. It has opened up a new avenue of communication for my son with autism, too! Golden!

We love our beardie but I find I still have many questions from diet, to crickets, to coloring and more. I'm so glad j found this forum!

It's nice to meet you!

Hi! Welcome to the forums.

I also have high functioning Autism and having Allie around me seems to help me in many ways. I was once shy around people and children. (The only ones I wasn't shy around was my family. Since having Allie, I've been more 'relaxed' and whenever I take her with me, a crowd comes around to see her and ask me questions about her. I'm not as shy as I used to be and have come a long way.

Hey, Buddha!! How are you doing? I haven't heard from you in a long long time! How's your leg? :)

Wow!! Isn't that amazing how a 'lizard' can help out in so many ways. I think that is wonderful. Good luck with your beardie. This is a wonderful forum with lots of information. Ask away with questions or concerns....there is never a 'stupid' one. Welcome to BDF!!

Welcome to the forum! I'm fortunate that I got into reptiles when I did. At first it was a spur of the moment when I got Merlin about 2/3 years ago? (can't recall exact day). Mom and I were on our way to church and saw a Reptile show nearby. I said "Hey Mom, we should definitely go to that" since she's afraid of snakes. She laughed as we headed into church. They talked about facing your fears, and even showed a video clip of Indiana Jones saying "Why does it have to be snakes!?", so of course we went to the show afterwards. We'd entered a contest at the beginning, and my dad called just as they were calling names to see where we were. We told him Mom won something at the Reptile Show. We technically won a habitat, but when Dad called again, he asked "Is it alive?" and we said "Yeeeessss....." so we picked out Merlin, my leopard gecko female, and we got hooked since then.

I was depressed for a little while there, and my lizards have helped me to get out of that mess. They cheer me up, and I do my best to take care of them and keep them happy and healthy :)
