hello, i was givin a baby beardie 1 month old he will not eat. I was given him because his previous owner had him for 2 weeks and said he would not eat at all so they assist feed him and syringe feed him. How can i get him to eat on his own.

Please go over the uvb your using No coils please-- basking surface temps should be 105-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer- No stick ons - he will not eat w/ out correct basking temps and uvb -- his eating will be off because of relocation stress- but he should be eating a little+

Ok look on the uvb bulb and tell me what brand and look for T 5 or T 8. This is crucial and show me a pic of the screen and does the uvb hood have a reflector in ? The placement and distance of the uvb is crucial - I see no temp guages in the tank at all+ how are you getting temps? You need 2 digital probe thermometers in the tank one for basking side your temps in the tank are crucial to the health of your dragon they and the uvb are what control the overall health and behavior- once you get these situated he should start eating

Its t5 10.0 reptisun. I use a temp gun. No reflector. The screen is mesh. So should i stop syringe feeding and just see if he eats?

Please get a bigger tank- the T 5 needs to be in a hood w/ a reflector- he's not getting the correct uvb he needs+ those rays need to be directed downward toward him -+ for now get a piece of decor directly under the basking decor piece 8-10 inches but you must have a hood w/ a reflector - Zoo Med or a sunblaster nano tech w/ your T 5 bulb the bulb needs to be a 22" and it should not be over a year old the 22" will fit into a 24" hood

Ok so please get the T 8 unobstructed the T 8 is good for the 20 gallon but not strong enough to go thru a screen unobstructed w/ basking decor 6-8 inches directly underneath- a reflector is necessary- sorry I thought the dragon was 2- oops+ he will not eat w/ out this being correct IR guns are good but will not read off of hammocks you need those digital probe thermometers- take the screen off the tank or half off place the uvb width wise across your tank but the screen up to the uvb and put your basking bulb next to it this is why you need the reflector

Will do. But my question was he has been assist fed for 2 weeks. How can i get her to eat alone. She was started assist feeding because she didn't eat for a week.

That is most likely because of incorrect uvb and or basking temps-- once those are corrected she should start eating even a little is better than nothing relocation stress- is also playing a part in the not eating but the incorrect uvb and temps will play a huge part in that - make sure your offering salads rinse the greens before serving she will get hydration from those - as long as your temps and uvb is good she will acclimate to the tank faster everything will fall into place- please get a reflector or your issue will not get better

The correct temps and UVB will help w/ the normal eating process - please get those corrected and watch the behavior - if this does not correct the behavior w/ everything in the tank correct then something else is going on- those temps and UVB are the lifeline to the dragon -his behavior should change w/ in a day or so I would drop one or two crickets in to the tank and let him go after them - please get some BSFL from here www.symtonbsf.com order the size NO bigger than the space between his eyes - do not dust them hand feed him a few then add them to his salad bowl in front of him - they are good salad toppers and will draw him to the salad bowl you want him eating some salad his main diet is protein for now but you want him eating out of that salad bowl as well --- make sure you change the UVB bulb out in 6 months I recommend 5
