I think it's just the picture angle, is it 36"? That's the size of mine and we do just fine. I like the brick pyramid, lots of climbing options plus a way to file the nails.

It is 36 × 18 × 18. It is meant to be a temp (unless my husband never gets around to building one) . We ultimately want a 48×18×24.
In the front right now is white paper towels. My husband wants to put large white rocks. Thoughts on that? I'm not worried about accidentally ingestion, but I am worried about keeping it clean
As for the floor, the stone is fairly smooth. The bricks for the pyramid are slightly rough.
My temp at the top step reached 116 at one reading. Is that too hot?
Thanks for your inputs!

116 is a bit warm. 105-110 is better. If you are going to build one id recommend making it 4'x2'x2'.

Thanks for the suggestions. As for the beardie itself.. I want a leather back dunner, reddish in color and possibly a spotted. My understanding is that severely limits my search (the spotted aspect) to one person -Kevin Dunne. I have been in correspondence with him. If I am willing to forgo the spotted aspect, that opens up the search. I'm trying to be patient and wait for the local reptile show at the end of the month, but time is passing by sooooo slowly.

Another thing I noticed was the analog temp gauge. A digital probe temp gauge will give you a more accurate reading at the basking spot.

PatsyB, if you are referring to the black circular thing on the right side wall, that is a hatch to pull cords through. I am indeed using an infrared digital probe. I've learned lots from you guys in a short amount of time! But thanks for checking

Oh that's cool. I like it on the side like that. Glad to hear that you are all offering you good advise. I remember when I set up my first tank I had it for less than a week before I couldn't take it anymore and had to go get Dexter. I didn't really plan too much before I got Luci. We brought him home and kept in him a 20 gallon tank a few days before we got our shelves and the 2nd tank. Luckily we learned from Dexter so we knew everything that we needed to get.

If you want a spotted go for it. I got mine a little while ago and he is the cutest. I wish he was darker to see the spots better but I still love him

Where'd you get your dunner (and for how much if you don't mind me asking). Just curious.
