I posted a few weeks ago about my new baby, who seems to be slowly settling in and eating a little better now. However I’m still getting a little confused with some conflicting info I’ve been reading.
I wondered if someone could let me know if this sounds good R.E dusting- I’m dusting roaches with pure calcium 5 days a week, vitamins which contain D3 and calcium one day a week and not dusting with anything the other one day. She will barely touch the variety of veg I’ve offered, so I’m wondering if her vitamins should be more than what I’m giving her just now?
My other question is, for the first time today she climbed on my hand and up my arm and since has been sitting looking at me like she wants out. However, my living room is no where near beardie proof and I’m terrified she will take a jump and hurt herself or get lost somewhere in my house. Does anyone have any tips or tricks, or think that I should just go for it anyway and hope for the best?
She’s supposedly 14 weeks but some beardies at this age look much bigger than she is, so I’ll attach a pic incase anyone can take a guess or tell me if this looks right and also if she looks healthy.
Thanks a lot and sorry for the book :/

I would HIGHLEY recommend not feeding a 14 week dragon roaches. I would give her crickets. So I again HIGHLY SUGGEST GETTING CRICKETS! And try feeding her fruits and you only need to dust 3 or 4 times a week. So try that!

Why would you advise against roaches? Dubias are a great feeder, and crickets can carry parasites.

I suggested trying I’m not forcing you. And the store or wherever you go they make sure that they don’t carry anything.

Can I ask why? Everything I’ve read and everyone I’ve spoke to has said that dubias are a better choice for a staple feeder than crickets? They have a better nutritional value, including more protein. I don’t buy anything from pet stores, I get them from a respected breeder& seller and gut load them for a week before feeding.
I’m also a bit confused about your dusting advice. Everywhere I’ve read says to dust with calcium daily for babies. Where I’m confused is giving the vitamins since they contain D3 and I’ve read that you can overdose them on calcium and D3.
Thanks for the advice but I’m not 100% sure you’re right with your info.

About the "running away and hurting herself" point, I would suggest not worrying about it. At some point she will probably run off, but if you find her quickly she will probably be ok. Be careful about it though. You might have to dig out some things to find her, and you don't want to accidentally crush her. My dragon's about a year old now (maybe more, I'm not sure how old he was whan I got him) and he was he was ok both times.
Also, I've heard on the internet that beardies like to watch things for fun and know what they are, so she probably just wants to know more about you.
And about the crickets thing, I've been feeding my beardie crickets since the day I got him, and as far as I know, he's been fine. I don't really know about the calcium dusting side of things, I just know what works for me, so I can't really say much on that.

Thanks for that! My house isn’t very big but there are a lot of places she could run under and I think it would be a nightmare to find her.
I guess maybe I should just chill out about it and worry when it happens.

Seems you’re doing fine. Just don’t overdose him with regular calcium. My Dusting Routine is this:
Monday- MultiVitamins
Tuesday- Calcium w/ D3
Wednesday - Regular Calcium
Thursday- Calcium w/ D3
Friday - MultiVitamins
Most Saturday’s I dust Regular Calcium. Sunday’s are her “days off”. Mine is an adult (4years) so it can vary. I HIGHLY recommend Dubia like you mentioned, great feeders. I have a Dubia Farm and Mealworm Farm to feed my dragon. As a young beardie, make sure to feed him 70% Meat 30% Greens/Fruits. At first, most beardies will neglect veggies so makes sure you give him VARIETY (Mustard, Carrots, Collard, Kale, Blueberries, Green Beans, etc). Then you’ll know what your Beardie likes. Feed some cilantro as well since the smell apparently boosts their appetite.
Your house is fine, whenever you take him out, just make sure you keep an eye on him. Let him explore, my Beardie loves to jump and climb everywhere. Shes even fallen before but nothing crazy. Baby Beardies are super active so expect a lot of jumping and running from him. It’s good to let them loose every now and then; I hate seeing my Beardie in her tank 24/7 so I always spend time w her
