Whenever I feed my Bearded Dragon large meal worms, it's incredible because it appears that the worms have some sort of understanding, almost in every stage they are in. I put them in the tank, and they know to move very, very quickly, and hide under something. How do they know these things? I think it's absolutely incredible. At times, they know to keep absolutely still when they know the B.D. sees them!

Ive often thought that with the hoppers it like they know wot gunna happen. Its fun to watch the stans off tho. Diego waits for them to move b4 he strikes. He storks them really slow till they move its great :)

Well, I think it's instinct. Just like with some reptiles, being out in the open makes one vulnerable. The insects are looking for a place to hide not because they know you are feeding them to a lizard, but because self preservation is an instinct.

Are they considered insects? I understood them to be part of the process , say of larvae, going from stage to stage until they develop into whatever they are supposed to be. So, that being the case, and they are just part of the growth process, are they truly insects? IMO, an insect is something that sustains its appearance, eating habits, and instincts through its entire life. The mealworm is just a stage before they finally becomes beetles. I could have said this in a more coherent way but I am sure you understand what I mean. I Hope!
