My husband and I went to a new pet store near us to get Frank a fuzzy to eat and when we went there we were looking at all of the reptiles and products there. Let me tell you, this store was AMAZING! No compact bulbs, only Zoo Med Reptisuns, MVBs, no calci-sands no crappy dangerous substrates and best of all, A KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF! Every reptile was housed either alone or small groups in gigantic enclosures. They had like a 7 foot by 2 by 3 enclosure for a couple beardies, a similar sized cage for an argus monitor and everything was spotless. No dead animals, all CBB and locally bred as well. They breed their own beardies and you can see the whole breeding process right there and see the parents and they have paperwork for the parents and everything.

Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangent but anyways, back to the original reason for this post. We go in and we are looking at the reptiles and my husband comes across a baby Veild Chameleon. He loves those things like I love Frilled Dragons and next thing you know, he goes and buys him after asking and making sure we had the room of course. His name is Dusty and he such a cutie.

Thanks Brian. This totally caught me off guard. As much as I wanted just about everything in that store I behaved and then my husband is like, "Babe, I'm not leaving without Dusty" as he's holding him and giving me puppy dog eyes. He used my own tricks against me. His parents think he's insane for getting a lizard and also think I've created a monster in getting him addicted to owning reptiles lol. I'll take more pictures as he settles in more but I don't want to stress him out too much. I'm still playing with the heat lights to find what works best to achieve a good basking spot.

Ill enjoy watching this progress. From what I understand Chams are a bit of a bear to keep healthy though.

Granted my prior experience with them wasn't for too long or even in ideal conditions but they but I didn't run into too many issues with them during that time. (at the pet store I worked at)

we've had 3 veileds, and 2 of them have died before they should have. one had gular edema that the vet failed to notice. the other one we just lost about a month ago. he was 5 months old and 18 grams. not normal. i drove 2 hours to the breeder we got him from to get some reptaid, and he died on my way there. he sent us home with an 11 month old who weighed 150 when we got him, now he's 159. we got a mistking for him, and we're doing everything possible to keep this one alive.

Nice pick up Candice. Tim (theVirus) would be a good source of info for chams If you can get him to pop up that is.

Dusty is definitely cute. Chams look like an interesting pet to keep. They're very uncommon around here....

Thanks guys. Yeah, if getting hold of Tim was a bit easier I would be drivin him nuts right now. lol I am still in a bit of shock about having a cham. It's one reptile I didn't think I would ever own but it's not a bad thing that I do now.
