I "adopted" a little girl for Christmas

I wanted to share this with you guys because I am very excited about it. Tonight my family and I adopted a little girl so that we can help with her Christmas. Her mom works part time, and her grandma and grandpa are both disabled. The little girl is 2 years old. That is all the information I have so far, and I should know more soon.

I have wanted to do something like this for a long time, and I am so glad this year I am able to. No child should ever be without Christmas.

Looking at all the families that are in need, and struggling so much broke my heart, and actually brought me to tears. What an awful time we live in right now... if I could help everyone I would. I feel bad for not being able to help more kids to be honest, but I have 4 daughters of my own as well to buy Christmas for.

If this all goes smoothly, this will be a yearly thing. I will get to meet her, and her family soon. I'll keep this thread updated.

That is a great thing you're doing, you are a hero. Thanks for doing that.

So many times we don't realize, or overlook other people, even near us who are hurting and worst off than we are. Please do keep us posted.

I agree completely. We must be thankful for what we have, and sometimes it is easy to overlook these things. I'm still waiting to hear from the family. I hope it isn't much longer!

Good for you! That's great news! :)

Every year, I grab an Angel off the tree and buy toys and clothes for a boy and a girl. (Sometimes, they'll just have clothes, so I add to the list with toys. Clothes are good, but toys give them something to play with. I feel so good when I do this.)

When I worked with a lady with a girl, she didn't have the Internet and she told me that her daughter wanted a special Barbie Doll not found anywhere in stores. (Not sure what Barbie I looked for) So I spent a number of days looking for the Barbie Doll the girl wanted. I found it, bought it, wrapped it up, and gave it to the lady. She never said thank you or anything. She was jealous because I found it and bought it. (I bought it because I wanted to make someone's Christmas a happy one.) To this day, I believe Charity starts at home and I give spare change to the local fire department, police, ambulance workers when they're standing on the side of the road with a boot. (I once made a promise that I'd come back after my errands to give them money when I got some bills. I drove up a fireman while the light was red and said, "Here and thanks." I gave him a dollar. My passenger asked why I did that and said, "I made a promise to God that I would."

Ya know, I'll be honest. I am not a religious person, however I don't have any issue with anyone that is, or has any certain belief (who am I to judge?). My kids go to church with my mother in law every Sunday because they want to. I feel it is definitely a personal choice, and everyone has a right to choose their own beliefs. Anyhow, that said, I do believe in being a good person, and helping out people that need help if I am able. I give to the Salvation Army every year, my husband and I have volunteered many evening at the local soup kitchen, and if there is EVER a child in need of anything I will do my best to get it for them. This is the first "adoption" at Christmas time, but we have bought toys, clothes, and winter coats for kids in need. I hope to continue with this every year though!

Good for you. Charity is and should be its own reward. It's unfortunate most people, religious or not, don't follow this simple principle.

Very true. There are not enough good people in the world anymore. :( I hope doing what I do, and having my kids involved with it as well will help them to grow up into kind, loving young ladies.

Makes you feel good. My mother and I fed a homeless man and his dog dinner one evening. He was grateful that he had something to eat instead of nothing. It's a good feeling when you help others out.

I was watching the debate tonight and the President and Governor Romney were making some valid points about things. Jobs, Libya, and other things. Many people are struggling to earn a living in this day and I feel sorry for people making minimum wage and losing their jobs right and left. It's sad to see a family of four standing around at the food banks trying to get food. I've been there before, waiting at the food banks for food. It's not fun. I give away whatever I don't eat to people who do.

I do hope things in our country change, and soon. Things are getting really bad, and people are really struggling. It is high time to clean up the mess that has been made! You're right, it is sad. There are families out there that had everything that needed in life, and lost it all within weeks to months due to the economy. It is awful, and it makes me appreciate EVERYTHING I have. I take nothing for granted.
