So I live in Florida, and although hurricane Irma is beyond a week out, I'm already getting prepared. I just picked up evacuation carriers, and just ordered a 10pk 72hr uniheat packs. And I've got foods set up for evacuation time.
Below is Puff inspecting the carriers for him and the geckos :)

Better to be prepared and not need them.. you can put pieces of blankets in there for some cushion.

Glad you are getting prepared. I know someone that has LOTS of animals that is trying to figure out what to do with them all before they get hit with the hurricane. Just remember not to feed if you don't have UVB and basking light.

This is going to sound like a dumb question.........you don't feed them at all if you don't have uvb? Why? My guess would be they can't absorb nutrients therefor get impacted?

I just evacuated from Harvey. For my beardie, I bought a soft sided cat carrier with mesh so he could see out. Since it's soft I can fit it pretty much anywhere in the car amidst the other animals. It's very cushioned inside, too. He seems to like it.

I packed his uvb, basking, and the mesh top of his tank. When I got to my destination I bought a large storage bin and set the mesh lid on top, and the lights on top of that! Worked perfect- correct temps, lighting, lots of space for him.

You don't want to feed at all if there is no basking light. The high heat from the basking light helps aid digestion. If they don't have the warmth they could potentially just throw up undigested food.

How are things now? Can you get back in your house? These hurricanes are so stressful, I can't imagine having to come up with an evacuation plan or having to leave any of my babies behind. I have a friend in FL that is freaking out right now, she's a little more inland but in a trailer in a flood area and she has a gecko business and tons of live stock that she is trying to secure before she evacuates with as many pets as she can and her human family.

Yes, we were very fortunate in that we only had damage to the backyard. There are areas where entire neighborhoods were demolished, with many houses scraped down to the foundations. It's heartbreaking.

I was able to evacuate - in 1 car with 2 people, 2 dogs (one of which is a German shepard), 2 rats, 7 reptiles, personal items, and 13 large rifles. Not a huge car either, so it was a very crowded 10 hour drive. I had a rough evacuation plan beforehand, but I still had to improvise- I ended up dumping out 2 storage bins and melting holes in them so I could take my tortoises.

Evacuations are definitely stressful - I lived in Galveston when Ike hit, so I evacuated for that and a few others. I've lived on the coast for 10 years now and I'm actually looking to move - I'm tired of dealing with it!

Any ideas for keeping a dragon warm for 24-48 hours if the power goes out? We don't have have a generator. We are in NE ga and they are now saying we might lose power!

you can get those hand warmers and put them under some towels so they are not right on them..Just remember they can't sense heat from their bellies and if they can't get heat and UVB don't feed them..

I ordered UniHeat 72hr packs from Rainbow mealworms. Unfortunately they aren't sending them in time, and I won't have them if the power goes out. [emoji849][emoji849]

Got any sports stores close by? you can get some there that people use, but due to location it may be difficult to find them maybe.

I have a stupid question. How cold does it really get in FL if your power goes out? Everyone is buying heat packs but I'm wondering if it really is a necessity.

Not really cold, usually hot. My geckos tank is sitting at 81 while the power is off. But Puffs tank at is 75.
I ordered backs for travel incase we needed to leave.
