Hey Guys,
So I have had my guy for a few weeks now. He's about 3.5 months old. He was tricky getting to eat for a few weeks. He didn't like crickets, but took a liking to Dubias. He's eating about 12-15 a day. I've tried to offer Kale, Arugula, Romaine, Banana, Strawberry, and Collard Greens. He's just not interested. Should I be concerned at this point, and are there any tips or tricks getting these guys to eat veggies?

Thx in Advance,
Steve

Hi Steve, I personally wouldn't worry just yet at that age..offer the crickets on top of small amount of veg each day. he will eat it when he's ready. As long as he has a steady appetite then all should be fine. Keep up the supplements and monitor your Temps and you will have a long lived obsession and Friend.

Yea I wouldn't worry about him not eating greens yet as babies 80% will be bugs and 20% greens what you should do is feed your feeders the greens as well so your beardie is getting them that way and with dubia it really works well as their GI tract is really long keeping the nutrients in them longer.
If you haven't read the links below several of our comments please do as we have several links to food items that most of us use.. Kale is an occ to be fed item and romaine really has no nutrients just water.. Collards, mustard, turnip, dandelion are the top ones to be fed.
The new comer links has tons of info that we've put together to help out

do you have a colony and a feeder tub? I ask as oranges are high in vit C so you don't want your dragon getting too much.. I feed only my breeding colony oranges my feeders don't.

I setup a ten gallon tank with lid, and have egg crating, no just for feeding... Ill cut out the oranges for now on, can the vit c hurt my dragon?

oranges are high in vit c and moderate oxalates it binds calcium.. yes too much calcium isn't good for your beardie..too much vit c can cause diarrhea

Oranges are REALLY good for a breeding colony as they get the males nice and happy :) if you get my drift lol

I only feed my feeders the food I feed my lizard. However my breeder get what ever is going they will devour whatever you put in there there. Oranges and strawberries all ways do good for the breeding with some carrot and iceberg lettuce as a source of hydration.

Yep you want to feed your feeders the items that are safe for your lizards. I feed my dubia dry chow I mix up, water crystals, carrots, oranges (not feeders) greens, veggies...

I also stick the old jack flap stuff out of my waxworm breeders (honey and cheerios). I always seem to have a better production a couple of months later. Never really monitored it though. Just easier when cleaning waxworks to dump it in and whoomph it's gone lol

I offer fresh greens in the morning and then give crickets for supper. Make sure that you have veggies cut to appropriate size for the size of your dragon. I'm sure my beardie eats very little of it but I feel it's important to offer it. If you give bugs and salad at the same time you can be assured that your beardie will leave the veggies and go for the bugs every time :)
