I’ve tried 2 different types of hides and Stella doesn’t want to be in either of them. I even tried putting some BSFL to coax her in and she goes in, eats them and comes right out never to return. Is a hide more of a just in case item or do they normally use them? Her favorite places to be are her hammock and basking. One side of her hammock is away from UVB and heat so she usually just moves from one side to the other.

Mine use the hides all the time --- Blaze uses his every day for a morning nap then comes out in the afternoon hes all over his tank between the basking bulb and the UVB mine are set up in two different areas but I have since added a basking bulb over the hide area where the UVB is and he sits on top of that hide - Hiccup uses his about every other day or so but that too is under the UVB - they each have two hides in their tanks -- she will use it eventually - is it big enough for her ? You dont want something too small--

It’s very big. I made one from a large box and the other was purchased. https://www.etsy.com/listing/919796...-for-bearded?ref=shop_home_recs_5&pro=1&frs=1

Forgot to mention she does have one “hide” under her basking, she rarely uses it but has a few times. I just widened the entry to the box hide and turned it so she has more space to get in to see if that makes any difference. I also ordered a hammock/hide to see if she prefers that.
How are you getting basking temps I dont see any gauges in the tank and what are you using for a UVB? Brand and bulb - the screen on the tank is a fine mesh like a screen door or a wide hole type ? this is extremely important -- I would also get the tank off the floor - a old dresser w/ drawers works really good for keeping the accessories' in it

The box is more of a house than a hide.. lol :) Its probably the Aesthetic that’s bothering her too , they like tight fitting spots ive found. you can get large cork bark tubes, or pieces of bark, i do like your slate that’s good to have (please make sure its secure) , my girl steffern will sleep in the cork bark 30% of the time , she has a hanky underneath the other hide and favors that one.

I may try cork next if she’s still not talking to the other. The box is probably like a house to her! Thanks for the ideas and pictures.

We’ve been through these questions on other threads multiple times and my husbandry was already given the thumbs up by you. If all is ok then what else should I know about the hide?

Just have it as a option --- she will eventually use it -- it may take her some getting used to it

I made a new hide with a shorter box and a wider opening. She slept on top of it a couple days ago and tonight she’s inside!! I’d take a pic but I didn’t want to disturb her. Maybe I can snag one right before she wakes up.

She started on her hammock where she normally sleeps and then by lights out she was here.
