I may be a new reptile owner in the near future, still doing my research. I just had so much fun playing with a variety of them at a pet store we adopt cats out from. I loved the chameleons but they are difficult to care for and since I've never owned a reptile I didn't want to go that route. I am pretty much wavering between the crested gecko and the bearded dragon. Expensive isn't too much of an issue as I know the bearded dragon will cost more. I just want to make sure I'll enjoy the pet and it'll not be too nervous with the zoo I already have (dogs and cats). I love the feel of the crestie (it was so cute climbing up me) but like the idea of being able to handle the beardie a bit more. Decisions decisions!

I'm biased, but I vote beardie!! I got one and became so involved/happy with it that I got a second one.

I have bearded dragons, crested geckos and leopard geckos. I can tell you that they are all wonderful and there's no wrong decision. Crested geckos are cheaper and easier to care for, aside from monitoring humidity. Bearded dragons require more to make a proper set up, but are fantastic additions to any family. I definitely have more of a bond to my dragons, than to my crestie. They seem to be more receptive to their owners, but are a lot more work.

I have the whole shebang! I think a beardie would be a good first lizard. Crested geckos are cute and cheaper to care for but they are very jumpy and if you have a curious cat, that may be a problem. My cat is always trying to get near my crestie when I have her out of her tank. I have a veiled chameleon and he is not very friendly so he's basically just a look but don't touch animal.
