Hi

Well we got a new beardie about two weeks ago. My friend who lives out in the country (we live in TX I live in town) found him walking up her dirt driveway. He was very hungry and dehydrated so she called not knowing what it was and offered it to my son so that is how we got Gunzilla aka Gunnie. He is a very laid back and mellow guy he has allowed us to hold him since we got him. He is on a diet of collar and mustard greens and crickets and occasionally super worms. I sprinkle calcium on his greens every other day. We have also started giving him baths.I have many questions and I hope I can find them here.

Hi mxw0rld and thanks.
I would like to know if he is on a diet of collar greens which is a good source of calcium how often do I sprinkle calcium on his food? My son read that to much calcium can harm them. Also acorn squash is on the daily list of ok foods but it says it needs to be cooked, stupid question but how do you cook it? And what does occasionally mean? Every other day, once a week, once a month? Just wants right. Thank you

Due to his exposure before you got him I'd suggest getting a fecal test . If he's got any worms or parasites you want to get that cleared up asap. It's really rare to have a dragon just walk down your driveway. And good thing he picked the driveway that got him to you. Most ppl wouldn't have even thought to help him. High 5 to your friend and you.

Welcome and soo glad that this fella is in better hands now.. If you haven't already take a look at the links below several of our comments as we've put together infor for new comers and this link may help you in many of your questions... Yea I would also once he's settled in get a fecal test done, I say once he's settled as he may still be in a relocation stress is kinda what we call it.. that can give false positives..
I feed all sorts of squash and I've not cooked them, many just grate some up and call it good :)

I find the cheese grater makes salads so much easier for me. I chop the greens and then shred the other toppings over it.

I don't cook any of their foods. The squash just gets shredded with a cheese grater. It's easier to dust the feeders rather than the salad. Just lightly dust one feeding a day. Calcium overdose is a possibility but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Especially now since he needs to build up his calcium stores. They do tend to expel excess calcium when they go to the bathroom.

A fecal is a good idea, I was told to wait 4 weeks after bringing them into a new environment before you get them tested. Stress is a number one cause of parasite overload and coming into a new situation is very stressful.

Do you have a picture of him?
