Here is minion and the tank I have him in now. The previous owners did not take proper care of him. I am trying to do the best I can to make sure he is a healthy and happy dragon. Feel free to let me know what you think of the tank. I'm still new at this but I'm dedicated. Anything to keep this amazing reptile happy. No water in the water bowl, just to keep the drift wood up, warming pad under the very right tile, basking lamp (about 98-100 degrees) strip uv light, and always has food. They owners had him backed up for a while. The first week he didn't poop. I redid his whole tank with what's in there now. He had coconut fiber and nothing else but a bowl. No uv bulb. I gave him a warm bath and massaged him, since them he has been pooping! Thanks for this awesome forum! It really helped on what to get and not to get. I was going to get calcium sand for substrate but decided not to bc this forum.

Well it looks like you're doing a great job with your new rescue. It's awesome to see any animal saved from an unsuitable environment. You may see me posting a new one soon as well. (my friends girlfriend has an adult that has never had a UVB lamp because she didn't know he had to. and she said she gives him lettuce and veggie scraps sometimes. he hasn't even had live food since very young. :/ can't imagine what the tank looks like. soon. soon.

I'm sure he appreciates your efforts and caring. :)

*? ~why no water in his bowl??

I don't want to have the environment too humid. With the water it makes it humid. Also he gets all the necessary water from live crickets and greens. Thanks for the support! This dragon also did not have a uv lamp. He is so much more active now:)

Congrats to you for taking in a rescue and giving him the care he needs. You are so right about the calcium sand....big no no. You can use children's play sand from Lowes or Home Depot. I have had both....sand and slate. Right now I have sand only because I feel it is more like their natural habitat. Your tank looks very nice. I would raise the temp on the basking side to about 105. You don't need a warming pad....your beardie will get enough heat from the basking spot. Good luck and once again....you are to commended to providing your rescue with the best. Welcome to BDF and come back often!!

Thanks! I can seem to get it any higher than 100 degrees, any ideas? I believe its a 100 watt. I'm not sure because it was the one the previous owner had.

Try a higher watt bulb. I use a halogen outside flood light....works great. Don't remember the wattage. You could also try raising your basking spot. One more thing....I am not too sure what type of thermometer you are using. You should be using a digital probe one. Actually two of them. One placed at the highest spot of the basking side and one on the cool side. Hope this helps a little bit! Good luck!!
