Hello Everyone. 3 weeks ago, Derby, our "second" Bearded Dragon, joined our family. My husband's Co-worker gave us a Bearded Dragon that was sick. Unfortunately (Rango) did not make it through the next day, and because our children were already attached to Rango, my husband had to run out and buy another. Which worked out great for my husband. He had been trying for a few year's to buy a lizard, but I wouldn't let him.
I've never had any type of reptile pet before, and I am pretty afraid of them. But in the last week or so I have made great progress with Derby, I can officially hold him/her (not sure if we have a male or female just yet) and we are actually debating about getting another beardie soon!

Thanks Everyone! I have a question, and was hopping someone could help me out. I have recently been doing a lot of research on beardie's. I found that you are not suppose to use Vita-sand or anything of that nature. (Derby has the Vita-sand at the moment.) Is this true?

You don't want your beardie to eat the sand so why should it need to have calcium added to it? The extras in the sand can act as a binder, think of clumping cat litter when it gets wet, and can cause impaction. If you want to use sand, children's play sand is safe and it's like $5 for a 50 pound bag.

Ah yes, be prepared for more "fights" over what is best! We went back and forth for the longest time over a water bowl in Dexter's enclosure. I said she won't drink from it but he said it's not right they don't have water. I won, but now that she is older we do have a water bowl in her tank because she will actually drink from it.

Welcome to the forum! A good discussion is good for both people. An argument is often unnecessary :) :) just my $0.02
Thank you! We haven't had any arguments yet ;). Just discussions on the research I've done. (Hopefully it stays that way lol).

If your new beardie is a little guy, you don't want him on sand at all. Repticarpet works nicely. Also if your other beardie was sick make sure you sterilize all cage furniture and tank if you haven't already. You don't want your new buddy catching anything. Just some tips :)
