Hi everyone, I'm Andrew, and I just got my first beardie a little over a month ago - her name is Penelope. Shes about 7.5 inches long right now and about 22 grams. I just got a scale about a week ago so I could track her growth. As a new dragon dad, I am a little worried about her because she hasn't shed for me yet...and she doesn't seem to be growing much. She eats like a horse though!

It should be ok. But if she doesn't shed in the next few months ask your vet;)

Keep an eye on her poop. Will be Greenish black with one part white. When mine was a baby she would poop everymorning. And feed at least an hr before the heat lamp Turns off so her food will digest. R u dusting her food with calcium and vitamins? Also what are the temps in her tank?

Oh, and welcome to the forum. :). Go to Heneral Dragon Discussion than to General Info/Setup and read the stuff Hydrudr posted. There is a lot of good info on setup, lighting, and diet.

Yes, crickets are dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements. Temp on the hot side is about 115, about 80 on cool side - though she always seems to want to be in the warmest part of the tank. And I always feed at least an hour before lights out. I have her in a 40 gallon breeder tank with a reptisun 36" t5 5.0 UVB, plus a heat lamp.

Sounds like u have got it going. :). Not sure why she has yet to shed. Maybe just a late bloomer. I think mine stayed small for a little bit before she started growing like crazy and had three sheds right after the other. Give it a little more time and just watch her weight, length, and poop.

Oh and her poop looks like pretty much every other juvenile bearded dragon poop I have seen in pictures...and she poops about once a day.

My grandson got his bearded dragon on June 1st and never shed until I started caring for him. He just shed a few days ago but for a few weeks prior he looked like a fat guy with a little coat. He was 8.5 inches long and weighed 50 grams. He grew an inch and is 9.5 inches long now, finally. My four dragons are constantly in shed, usually finished shedding for a week before starting to shed again. My youngest male has started his fourth shed in two months and went from 6 to 13 inches in that time. Be patient and the sheds and growth will come.

Update: she's evidently hit a growth spurt - she's 31 grams and her skin is looking dull - like she's gonna shed. =D I was looking at pics of her from when I got her, and shes most definitely fatter...

Glad to hear that she's getting fatter..that's always a good sign...Couple of things you may want to consider getting the 10.0 UVB bulb for that fixture the 5.0 isn't quite strong enough UVB you will be amazed at the difference..
Have you had a fecal done? Since she should be settled now making sure she's free of parasites that rob them from the nutrients which can make them loose weight/not gain could be playing a part of this.

Hdrydr31: I was actually planning on that - when I bought the lamp, it had the 5.0 in it. The 10.0 is on the shopping list for this weekend. Thank you though!

Looks like I didn't need to worry about her shedding - she managed to drop all the old skin off her head, feet, and torso in about 3 hours last night. I was amazed at how fast it happened.
