I have a bearded dragon which is also owned by my 3 younger siblings. They mostly do a lot of ad things that may negatively affect them, so i need some help with helping them stay healthy and safe.

I am very very new (only 4 days in) to owning a baby Beardie that I got for my 12 year old son. How old are your siblings? I have been helping him with her as much as possible while a he’s a baby but waited until he was mature enough to agree to a pet. My younger two, are 9 & 4 and at the moment they are only allowed to observe from the outside of the tank and I do not let them hold or touch her. How old is your dragon? Anyone have advice as to children and handling them once thy get older? My personal opinion is that if they can’t handle with care they are not allowed to handle at all.

My little ones, even my 3-year-old, like to pet her back while I’m holding her. At night, when she’s asleep and all wrapped up in her blanket, I will let my kids as young as my 5-year-old lay down on my bed with her on their chest. I will also let them sit down beside me on the floor and let Jayne run across their lap on her way to go explore. I think it all depends on the child and the dragon. My kids have been raised with various reptiles and small animals around the house and have been taught to be very gentle.

I think once she is adapted to her environment and I get used to handling her along with my 12 year old.. I will start introducing her to the younger two. My 9 year old should be fine, it is my 4 year daughter that I’m scared of. We have never had a pet at all before (husband is allergic to fur) so I have no idea what little impulses she may have and I feel better to just not let her near lady at all until they both have grown a little. That’s awesome that your little ones are already taught to be gentle, my younger two can get pretty wild.

Once your beardie is a bit bigger and not as fragile, it’ll be easier for them to start getting opportunities to touch her. Only my teens are allowed to pick her up out of her tank, and then only with permission.
