Now that you all think I've flipped my noodle and am totally out of character, lemme tell ya.
My grand daughter decided she wanted a bunny for Easter. We watched Peter Cottontail on tv.
So guess who is buying a bunny! 3 year olds don't realize grandma does the cold blooded, not cute little fuzzy things. lol
So, I've got the plans to build bunny's house, I've got bunny. I've got alphalfa hay, and your typical dietary base food.

Anybody got any tips to keep bunny happy?

and before you ask.............yes, I do know this is a REPTILE forum. Bare with me, I'm old and don't google like i used to. ;)

Let me know when you need to make a stew.

I always pick at my wife about this. I have eaten rabbit stew on numerous occasions when i was younger (we lived in the deep south lol and we did a lot of hunting). Rabbit stew is awesome but i cant bring myself to eat it now that i have met my mother in laws crazy pure bred potty trained rabbit that comes when its called and likes to cuddle. lol

It's amazing what we do for love, isn't it? Sorry, don't mean to get all sentimental during the smack chat!

Gina, I don't have a clue on how to keep bunny happy. Lots of carrots and lettuce I guess. :)

yup, grand kids really bring something out in us.
There's nothing like it.

I'm hoping to find good information on feeding and keeping bunny free from things like fleas and stuff. Somehow I don't imagine my techniques that apply to reptiles will much suit Mr. Peter Rabbit.

I used to keep rabbits. Lettuce isn't good for them. they love hay and pretty much any fruit and veggie. Mine all loved to be held. I had one rabbit that would hop up in bed and sleep with me. She was a free roamer, litter trained and all. They love to chew anything so keep an eye on cords and things like that. I found that they like those chew sticks that they sell at walmart.

Let me think back to my rabbit as a kid. Sounds like you have the basics. I do remember that you should limit the carrots you give them and they love granny smith apples and watermelon rine. Is it going to be an inside bunny or an outside bunny? If inside they will "taste" wires they come across in the house. They like to play. I had a ball about the size of a softball that I kept in the cage with the rabbit. It would also play soccer in the living room with me. They can stink so be prepared to spot clean the cage a couple of times a day. They always go in the same spot so it is easy to clean up after them. If it is going to be outside you will have to stay on top of it because the flys love rabbit poop and maggots come fast. There nails grow kind of fast but just like any animal if you teach it as a baby that nail trims don't hurt they will sit there and let you do it. That is about all I can remember, it has been about 12 years since I had a bunny.
