Help with basking spot / heat

Hi can anyone help.

I am new to having a bearded dragon (Spyro) I have a fluorescent bulb that stretches the length of the Vivarium and then a basking spot which has a ceramic heat and light bulb. I set the lights on timers so that Spyro gets 12 hours of day light and darkness the problem is that the heat drops significantly when the lights are off. I have the basking spot attached to a dimming thermostat but if I leave the thermostat on then the light stays on. Do I need a ceramic heat emitter as well as the basking spot or instead of the basking spot. So that the heat emitter can work at night but not produce light? Confused. What would you recommend? Beardies are supposed to have a cool-down period at night. As long as the room your beardie is in does not go below 65* at night, no heater is needed over night.

You need a basking spot during the day.

Thank you for your reply we’re storing him in a Vivarium down our outbuilding as he’s a Christmas present and I’m looking after him there is heating down there and stay quite warm but not sure warm enough and Spyro has seemed cold in the morning is that normal?
