I need help our breaded dragon is 6 months old. Her 40 gallon tank setup is 150watt UVB, 150 watt heating lamp. Her temp in the runs 93 to 100 depending on the room temp. She eats veg, fruits, baby food, cricket, super works with calcium. We take sure outside for natural UVB lighting on hot nice days. Just the other day we noticed she was dragging her arm around. I took her to the vet and they are saying she has MBD and her arm is not broken but she sees a hair line crack. So the vet is wrapping her arm. But she said she is wrapping both front arms because she doesn't want her putting to much weight on the other arm causing damage. I'm very confused about all this because I was doing what I read and questioned to be right before we got her. Vet told me she thinks she is not getting enough UVB light. So I switched out to a long hooded Zoo Med setup because she is saying the dome lamps are not that good for UVB. I also purchased a heating pad to go under her tank and a towel in-between the vinyl in case the pad gets to hot. When she gets home she will be on calcium drop, a vitamin, and soft foods. I ordered her some Phoenix worms because they are high in calcium. I'm lost and upset and would like some help please. I will attached a before setup(no pictures of) but it was the blk dome and silver was night spot, new setup and a photo of her. With heating pad temp is saying 102 in the tank.

First what UVB did you get? T 5 or a T 8--- distance plays a key role and placement-- I am sorry to hear about her- it's good you caught it early on tho- it sounds like you have a good vet too-- no heating pad please - dragons heat from the back not stomach you need to invest in a ceramic heat emitter and it should only be used when your tank drops below 65 at night- your basking temps need to be 95-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer - stick ons are only good for ambient temps- if the pic showing is all you have for decor in the tank you need to get her something in there that she can get on for basking like a shoe box cut at an angle w/ a dish towel so she can get to her basking temps- how is she getting around w/ no front legs wrapped?

it's a T10 Zoo Med. I didn't want to get a heating pad but the vet said it's a must for her when she comes home. That's the only reason I purchased one. I do have temp in the tank it runs 102. She did have more decorations and away to get close to the lamp. She fall off which caused her to injury her arm. I took it all out for now so she can recover from her injury. But did leave the log so he can get in a cool place if needed. The heating pad I did put a towel between the vinyl so if doesn't get to hot. I also have a timer on it to shut off. Vet told me 12 hours just as the UVB. But I have it setup to shut off and only 6 hours a day. I'm stressed and secind guessing everything now.

she's still at the vet and hasn't been sent home yet. I want things to be perfect for her when she comes home. She was dragging the injured leg. I haven't seen the wrapping yet.

I understand what is the purpose of the heating pad? If you don't have a che a heating pad will work if your only wanting the tank for warmer temps at nite--- but your basking bulb should be keeping those temps w/ out the heating pad and a che is better- are both legs wrapped? Shoe boxes are low and wider less risk of falling off

Ya I agree with you. I was doing that and not using the heating pad. The more I tt the vet I don't agree. That's why I wanted to reach out for help. On the wrapping I was told they wrapped both front legs I'm confused and not sure how she is going to get around. Waiting for the vet to call me back with more information. She has been at the vet for 3 day. I think that's crazy. It makes me think she doesn't know what she's doing.

UVB is a T10 by Zoo Med. It's a long hood setup. Yes she is coming home wirh wrapping and will have to go back in 6 to 8 weeks. I don't get the 3 days myself. It's almost like she has to figure out what to do. I'm confused. She said it as she wants to make sure she can get around ok.

Your bulb is a T 5 it has options it can sit on top of the screen as long as your screen is wide holed and looks like a dime or similar if its a fine mesh like a screen door it will need to go inside the tank
distance for inside 12-15 inches directly above basking decor
distance for top of screen 8-10 directly above basking decor -
