A little introduction, I have never owned a lizard and I currently do not have any pets. My last pet was 15 years ago.

I found a bearded dragon literally on my door frame on January 4th of this year. Their name is Yuri. Yuri was ice cold and really looked dead. I Brought Yuri inside warned him up, googled him, discovered he's not a native lizard so, I spent hours learning everything I could about his species while simultaneously hitting up all the pet and reptile stores in town gathering supplies for him.

After my hours of research

I felt like an informed new lizard ownee. Within a week or so I start to notice the outside of Yuri's mouth would get real crusty. The crusty substance was dark in color and sometimes with orangish hue patches. That is when I figured he either was an incredibly messy eater or he could have IInfectious stomatitis (mouth rot). I first made an appointedment with a local vet that had good reviews from other lizard owners. I then bought 3 over the counter cleaning solutions: Vetericyn Plus, a 4% anti-microcrobial cleanser solution (chlorhexidine). Additionally iunfiltered raw honey. I started to clean his mouth twice a day diluted of course and would end with applying honey. en't been able to see the inside of his mouth along his gums. wasn't able to ever look inside his mouth f never able to really see ondark colored crusted substance forming around the outside of his mouth remembering all I had just learned the I assumed it was mouth rot. I bought 2 different microcrobial solutions and unfiltered honey, cleaned his mouth twice a day, one morning while cleaning the outside of his mouth it started to bleed what looked like on the inside of right where I was cleaning. My eyes teared up and immediately made an appepp

Please go over Yuris husbandry--- NO coils for UVB please and NO colored bulbs please and NO heat mats please-- he needs a long tube fixture for a UVB and a bright white basking bulb that keeps temps to 95-110 taken w/ a digital probe thermometer -- w/ the mouth issue does he have any mucous coming out of the nose or mouth? I would think it would be more of a RI than mouth rot but I am not a vet either --- can you post a pic of him please -- I am posting a website to find a reptile vet in your area if there is one - you want someone w/ experience www.arav.org

Do take yuris to the vet not only for his mouth but to also get tested for parasites and to see if he’s overall healthy. A lot of the times rescues can come with pre-existing life threatening condition and a trip to the vet for an over all look and tests can really go a long way. Especially considering that he was left close to death on your front porch (thank you though so much for taking him in and opening up your heart to this scaly baby) his organs could have taken a blow from the weather and may need to be tested to see if or how badly they were damaged. But I do hope that yuris is doing well and that he’s getting all the love that he so deserves ❤️
