Hi guys I got a bearded dragon two days ago (Sunday) and I know its normal for a new bearded dragon to not eat for the first few days or so, but he's sluggish it worries me, he doesn't really roam the tank and hes just laying there, like hes alive he will look at me and if i pick him up i will have to handle him for a few seconds before he starts reacting hes a bit skinny and hes eaten a worm or two but im just worried if i pick him up and place him there he will stay there like I got home today and he had moved into a box i have in there which is great because the box is on the other side of his tank which is king of long, but I had to pull him out and set him in the warm side because I'm scared he won't come out to get heat, when i pulled him out he made his way to the heat rock i have so he was cold but if he didn't come out??? I'm worried idk what to do altho I've only had him for two days I'm already attached and dont want him to pass away idk i took him to the vet clinic i work at yesterday and the doctor said he seemed fine just a bit skinny so he gave him a shot to open up his appetite a bit but he still really hasn't eaten

I hate hearing stories of these vets that really dont ask questions -------------for instance what size is the tank? What is the lighting your using I need to UVB brand and bulb --- what are his basking temps and how are you taking them? infrared heat gun stick ons or digital probe? The lighting in the tank is crucial to the over all health digestion and absorption of calcium and his behavior -------------- the easiest thing for me to help is I need to see your tank ---- pictures if him and his tank and lighting---------------- how old is the dragon ---- ?? he will go thru location stress but he still should be eating --- he needs salads fed every day along w/ live insects like crickets dubia roaches BSFL ---- I have websites if you would like them but first we need to determine why his behavior is doing what it is --- heat rock? is that something he sits on ??? If it is please get rid of it --- they are dangerous as dragons heat from the top not their bottoms --- they can burn easily---- what worms are you feeding him ?

Thing is , he acts pretty well when he's out of his tank also it's not really a heating rock it's some river river rocks that get warm with the heating lamp, the lamp is just a heat lamp (I'm planning to get new heating set up when I get paid and whole that fixes it) I have salads with multiple things in there to see what he will eat and i feed him superworms I breed myself , they are very healthy and well taken care of i used to have another beardie that was fine with this type of setup but I'll still be buying a new hating system (can you recommend some??) Also again because everything's was the same for my old beardie I didnt take the temperature (sorry ik that sounds bad but I haven't been able to cash in my check because of issues and i haven't been able to buy a heat gun which is what i really want)

If hes acting well out of the tank and not in the tank there is something going on w/ the lighting-you need a bright white basking bulb that will keep temps 95-105 for an adult and 105-110 for babies - UVB should be a TUBE NOT A COIL---- Reptisun 10.0 long tube are the best right now or the Arcadia 12 % bulbs- the T 5's or T 8's depending on the size of your tank ------------------ super worms should not be used as a staple feeder for babies adults its okay --- since you didnt post pics of the tank I really cant tell you what is going on -- what kind of substrate is he on and what do the poops look like ? they need to be formed and moist w/ white urate --- not runny looking

Thanks for the advice and I'll check those bulbs out hes not a baby and sorry I'm in school I'll send a pick of him tho

He's not a full adult yet tho he's almost there , he pooped yesterday and it wasn't runny it was mist and formed not runny if it was i would have ran him back to my job, thing is I believe he acts differently outside of the cage because I'm handling him and getting him to be more active, like ill pet him and set him down lift him up stuff like that so he becomes more active but again I will be getting new lighting, I was starting to think it could be because he's going to hibernate?? But I hope not cuz idk how to deal with that seeing as my other beardie never did go through that, but again thank you (his name's komodo btw)

Ok so he could be slowing down -- they tend to do that in winter --- how old is he ? Semi brumation is what they call it but he should still be eating and basking -- my 8 month old last winter went into a semi brumation not full like he is this winter - he is coming out once a week to bask and I am giving him a bath once a week to keep him hydrated and a weight on him --------------what does Komodo weigh? A kitchen food scale will work and weigh in grams -------------- he looks thin to me in the picture --- what kind of substrate is he on ? If he is doing a semi brumation let him do it -- just keep him hydrated take him out once a week turn his lights on like normal - if you want you can shut them off earlier in the evening if hes sleeping here is a link to a brumation article
https://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/brumation/?page=1
Please read it --- it will give you info on the subject --- if you have anymore questions please ask I will help you as much as I can and if I cant I will ask someone who can

I'll be going to work soon and I'll take him and get him wheighed hes on a reptile carpet and yes I gave him a bath and he's a bit skinny I'm trying to fatten him up a bit (I got him a bit skinny again I've only had him for 3 days) so I'm just hopping he starts eating more so he get some weight i can tell hes going to be big because his head is pretty large and hes still not full grown

Ok well a good diet of live insects and greens here is a nutritional website for you
http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
I would get him on dubia roaches -- you can order them on line if you need some websites let me know --- but I would start feeding him as much as he will eat ---- he is going to go thru some relocation stress so thats going to slow his eating down to he settles in w/ you

Ok thank you I'll look into dubia roaches for sure and try to get him to eat
