hello everyone my name's Ashley and i'm 21 years old & just picked up a 3 week old beardie dragon. I've never owned any type of reptile before and would love any information you guys can give me.

the lil beardie is about 5 inches long (very tiny!) and sleeps a lot. i minced some carrots and romaine lettuce and put two meal worms in the dish but the lil thing doesnt seem to eat much, just sleep on the basking rock and looks at itself in its reflection. is this normal for it to do? i did notice this morning that it ate 2 meal worms from the dish cause i'd put 3 in lastnight. hopefully it's okay!

here's a picture of my baby :]]

Hi, Ashley and welcome to our forum. Wow, 3 weeks old. That is tiny.

Just a side note that mealworms are not recommended for these guys. To sum it up simply, their outer shell is difficult to break down. I would stick to crickets and salad for the time being.

Once you get the baiscs down (lighting, substrate, diet, temperature), it is pretty easy to care for these little guys.

Here is the link to our basic care info. Give it a read and let us know if you have any questions:

Oh i see, okay.
i was goin by this guy at a local pet store and said that mealworms were okay, but i trust this forum site then that guy cause i read up that wooded bedding is really bad for their stomach's when they're young and that's what the guy gave me with the tank all setted up. wasn't too happy to find that out .

thank you for the care websites i'm reading up on everything i can possibly find, wana make sure the lil one is properly takin care of :] I didnt think i was gettin such a young lil one or the fact it could be given away so young. my girlfriend texted me saying she had a surprise for me and there it was :]. we're picking up another one next thursday same size and age. now the lil one will have a friend :D

Make sure you get a separate enclosure for the newest one.... The only company any dragons need... are you ;)

"gizard" is what i'm calling it for now (till i know lol) seems awfully lonely :[. after handling, it will run towards the end of tank and scratch to get out. soon as i put my hand down towards him/her it will climb all the way to the top of my arm and will rest on me.

funny story:
my girlfriend and I had "gizard" out with us lastnight just layin ontop of the blankets and all of a sudden it just ran towards her armpit and bit her mole! i never laughed so hard in my life :D

I'm a little concerned today about my lil one..

he/she will keep scratching up against the glass like it's wanting to get out of the tank.. now it's just laying completely flat sleeping? i know they get stressed moving into a new home but it's sad to see :-\
