Hello!

I'm IndigoNight, but you can call me Indigo, Igloo, Jackie...whatever suits you. :3

I don't have any dragons yet, but I'm a proud Junior Zookeeper with two lovely beardies in my care - Gwendolyn and Lancelot. I've known Gwendolyn since I was only seven years old, I've definitely grown up with her and she has a very special place in my heart. She's 12 years old now, so she's getting up there for a dragon. I've made sure to spend lots of time with her this summer. Here's hoping for a few more years with Gwen!

Here's Gwen. <3

And we also have a male named Lancelot. He's probably 3-4 years old - quite a bit younger than Gwen! I've only known him for a few years, but his fun personality is definitely growing on me. When you first pick him up, he flails like a demon, but as soon as he's down on an arm or towel, he's calm as can be. Not is Lance fun, he's devilishly handsome.

Look at this handsome boy! Try not to swoon...I dare you. Impossible, isn't it? :p

So those are me and "my" current dragons. I hope to have my very own beardie by 2017. Can't wait to meet some of you forum members! I'm looking forward to learning and talking about dragons. :)

Welcome! Thanks for sharing with us. 12 years old....sounds like Gwen has a good life! My boy Luci is just like Lancelot, he flails and acts upset when you first pick him up but once I set him on my chest he's fine.

Jr. Zookeeper sounds like awe some job :)

Thank you! No problem, I absolutely love to share the animals in my life with other people. Yep, she sure has. I'm glad that I've been able to know her for so long, she's a really great animal...very blessed to have shared my life with her since I was little. I wonder why they do that! Maybe they're uncomfortable being in the air, and prefer to be supported?

It is. I don't get paid (I've put $160 into it through participation fees :D), but the incredible moments shared with my animals, and the animal care experience is payment enough. And then some. I've been with my zoo, through zoo camp and now JZK, ever since I was seven. It's been amazing.

Thanks again for the warm welcome, guys!

$160 is a deal to get to spend time with and learn about the animals! Our zoos always have programs like this for kids but I always wish they would do it for adults, even for a weekend.

Do you plan on being a vet or zookeeper when you are older?

Agreed! A lot of zoos have internships or volunteering available, but it's a whole application process to get in (as is JZK, actually). Sometimes at my zoo we let more random people help out during events like Boo at the Zoo. It's too bad that your local zoos don't!

I will be a zookeeper for a long time before I get to exactly where I want to be, I'm sure. But my dream is to be an animal trainer, namely marine mammals. But it's very competitive, so I will be spending my fair share of time working with terrestrial animals in zoos. And I'm perfectly happy with that. ^-^

Ours does events at the zoo where adults can help out but they aren't hands on animal things. The animal things are more for the kids. I think if we become a high member of the zoo and pay thousands of dollars we can be a zoo keeper for the day.

Goodness, that's just crazy! There are probably reasons for it, but still. Too bad the zookeeper for a day is so expensive.
