Heat lamp

I have a basking light for Sosa but I realized that while he was walking that his toes were curled up. I felt so bad because when I touched the floor of the tank, it was so hot! I have this almost laminate type of stuff at the bottom of it. I'll attach a picture. Is the lamp too hot or should I just be using something different for the floor?

Awe poor baby!! If it is getting that hot I would put the repti carpet down. So just to be clear you do not have heat tape or a heat mat under the tank right? Is the laminate stuff on the inside or outside?
I have contact paper down and on the heat side I have a towel and repti carpet down..

I know I felt so bad. Replicarpet doesn't get hot? I have no heat mats or anything like that. The laminate stuff is on the inside. I got it at repticon and it's supposed to mimic a rock like structure.

Izzy's floor does not get hot like that.. have you taken a reading on what the temp is on the floor? Once her tank warms up I'll take a reading of her's (her lights just came on only an hour ago..) her basking light is 22" above the floor, it is 7-8" from where she sits under it during the day. Also Izzy's enclosure has decorations that shade parts of the floor so I wonder if because your light can reach the shiny floor it holds the heat more..

I think you need to check your temps. The floor shouldn't get that hot. My basking spot gets hot and then right under it the temps get lower again. Make sure her feet didn't get burned :( Repti carpet does not get hot if your temps are right on. Remember it needs to be 110 (or a few degrees lower) in the basking area only. Cool side of tank should be 75-80
