There used to be a girl that worked at my Petco that had big scars up and down her arms and I used to think that she cut herself. Now that I've had my bearded dragon I realize that her scars were from her animals. I'm a dental receptionist and my hands are always visible and always scratched up from Dexter. Is there a lotion or something that people recommend to minimize scaring from scratches?

Yeah I heard of people cutting their nails too. I'm sure Dexter would sit through it but she has clear nails and I'm afraid of cutting too much off.

Well to help you out there, unlike dogs and cats, our little cuties dont have that marrow in there. So you dont have to worry about cutting to much off. I still wouldnt cut off much though because they like to climb and their claws help alot.

I have to disagree Mattalie. Dexter is a hypo meaning all ten nails are completely clear so I can actually see the pink part and it comes pretty close to her tips. Once when she was younger she ripped part of her nail off . I didn't notice when she did it but there was dried blood around the remaining nail.

Maybe its just certain types of beardies then. I remember reading that they didnt have that marrow or whatever it is.

They are like dogs in this aspect. Just use nippers or clippers and dont get to close to the vein in their nail. or use a nail file and just dull down the tip to keep it from marking you up. Mine dont mind it at all and makes them much more user friendly.

so far as I know anatomy wise most animals have a "quick" a blood vessel which ends into the nail and its best not to cut any more than about 1/2 millimetres from that so it doesn't bleed, if you do manage to get it corn flour is perfect to stop the bleeding quickly and safely (it wouldn't bleed too much). - Just a wee tip for y'all :)

As for the scratches, I have them too, not too noticeable but I have kept rats who also have tiny little nails too and have been scratched many times by them so it's something I am used to.

As for a product for minimising scarring I would probably suggest Bio Oil :) I've heard it does wondered for these things, never actually tried it myself but always heard good reviews
