My wife & sister-in-law bought my stepson a 2yr old bearded dragon for Christmas. But my stepson was only doing the bare minimum of care & upkeep, so my wife decided to get the BD & setup from his dad's this weekend so that she could sell all of it to someone who truly had an interest in BDs......So we've now got a 2yr old male bearded dragon named Spartacus.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the new addition to your family! Dragons make great pets and I think you'll be happy that you've now got Spartacus under your roof! :)

Thanks. Nothing like a crash course to try and get up to speed. This forum has proven to be a tremendous resource for starting out with less than 0 knowledge about reptiles in general & BDs specifically.

Right now I'm tinkering with the setup that we took over from my stepson based on info from here. To date, I've replaced the stick on thermometers with a digital probe for the hot side and a less sophisticated digital for the cool side and replaced the compact fluorescent with a straight one for uvb. Based on the new temp readings, I've also added a halogen flood lamp to the hot side.

Ok so taking a picture of a lit tank is tougher than I thought... But here are a couple of pics. Before I added the halogen bulb, Spartacus was climbing to the top of the hammock. The to temp was only about 85. Now he's retreated to the hide with the temp at about 99.

The double fixture has a reptile bulb on the left and a halogen flood light on the right. The fixture over the cool side has a regular 60 watt household bulb.
