Jordan is 18 months and can only say 2 words, done and hot. We took him for a hearing test and he can hear just fine. Next step is, we have to meet with a speech pathologist and have him evaluated. I just hope he starts talking soon, he tries but only he knows what he is saying which causes him to get so mad. Everything other than done and hot comes out bah.

Interesting. Glad to hear his hearing is fine, though! That's really good news.

Don't worry they do it on their own time, I have a friend who's child is has Down-Syndrome and he can not talk but they have taught him sign language through speech therapist and he is the cutest and SMARTEST thing i have ever seen. Im not sure of his ageby months but almost 2yrs old.

3 out of 4 of my kids had speech problems. With my 2 girls they were tongue-tied. They had a short frenulem which made it hard for them to talk. They had a quick surgery to clip it and thier speech took off from there.

Our second child(a boy) did not speak much until he was over 2. We were concerned so we took him for an evaluation. He looked him over but while we were there he noticed that Schelly(our first born) did all the talking for them both. He recommended that we hush her up when she started answering for him and in a short time he was chattering away. :) Could this be the case in your household?

My family has a long history of being tongue tied and lip tied, so this was the first thing I checked myself, he sticks can stick his tongue out far. He is not tongue tied but he is lip tied. Not as bad as my daughter and not enough to need any intervention.

Most doctors don't think to check to see if a child is tongue tied. My sister did not get hers cut until she was 18 when she had her wisdom teeth pulled. It was funny listening to her learn how to say some words again.

We explored the route of her answering for him and her giving him things with just his cave man sounds. I hushed her, and taught her what to do when she gives him things and this does not seem to have helped. I have been working with him hear at home since he was about 9 months and noticed he could not say mama or dada. I work with him daily on it, but it is not getting me anywhere.

Keep us posted as to what you find out.

My oldest Grandson had a difficult time right after birth (open heart surgery) He is exceptionally intelligent(had to throw in a Grandma Brag) But he has some issues with coordination and a few other things. One of them being his speech. He talks very fast and is sometimes very hard to understand. He has been to the Dr several times but it was a Dentist who noticed that he may only need to have that bit of flesh clipped under her tongue and his problem could be solved. Waiting to hear what they decide to do with it. He is 13 so it will be hard for him to relearn at this point.

Staylor...not sure what state you are in but many have all sorts of special programs especially for younger children. I am in the Early Education. Some 2 year olds don't have a huge vocabulary, but they do have some. That said there are many kids that are just late bloomers and they have speech delay. Anyways, back to the state. Go on Google and punch up for your state EI (Early Intervention). There are all different kinds. I know in my school, EI actually comes to the school to work with children individually. They will also go to homes. And...it is free! Whether it is a true delay or just late, it can't hurt.

Glad there is no hearing loss.

I will keep you all posted. I know he will start one day...it just upsets me to see how mad he gets b/c he can not say what he is trying to.

You have the right to be proud. I think it would be better to do it. My sister adjusted in about a week and only had problems with "S".

My doctors office has programs in their office that we are going to get him into. I am also very blessed with a speech pathologist as a mother in-law. We are taking a family vacation to Orlando in about a month and she said she will also work with him then. After that she said she will make trips here (currently only 3.5 hours away) to work with him some more. She is also going to give me "homework" to do with him.
